In the 13 games since Harper had contacts, he is batting .467/.556/1.022. If you put that into a MLE calculator, it would say that during that span, Harper would have batted .311/.373/.605 with 3 HR, 9 RBI in that span.

I wonder how he got this far without having his vision corrected earlier.

Yeah, seriously. On the other hand, think about how good he was when he couldn't see anything.

Also, better vision will be a bigger boost to his outfield D than it would be to catching D, right?

i was like its amazing how good he is with the eyesight.  he countered with, it's amazing how good he was without it.

Seriously. He comes from a upper middle class family so you'd think that his vision would be good be it with or without glasses. How in the world has he done this well with vision that needed correcting? Does anyone have an idea of what his vision was prior to contacts?

Anything quicker than a September call up would be ridiculously premature, but at the same time, I'm really beginning to think that Bryce Harper might be the second coming of Mickey Mantle. This year might suck, but our future looks awesome.

Vision that is good enough for the everyday is not the same as vision for hitting at the pro level. I remember when maxwell got glasses even though he was close to 20/20.

His dad's a construction worker - but still, his family is well off enough that they could afford those Walmart Eye Exams.

I think we should all pitch in for a group cryogenic freeze until the day Harper and Strasburg take the field at Nats Park on the same day. Shouldn't be too far away but the wait is awful.

Harper 2/3 with 2 Doubles, Run, Walk, and 2 outfield assists tonight in Hagerstown. :whip:

I was there last night with some family.  We were in the 4th row, halfway between directly behind home plate and the Suns dugout.  A few observations.  First, one of the doubles was just a soaring fly ball to left center, and probably would have been a HR a lot of places, including major league parks, but it bounced off a really high sign (ad) that serves as the wall in that part of the park.  Harper played under control, confident, and looked loose with his teammates the whole night.  My favorite play by him was a defensive one, though.  A ball was hit down the right field line and Harper ran over to pick it up.  The runner was flying around second and heading for third. So I was hoping to see Harper field it cleanly and and maybe make a strong throw.  Suddenly, this bullet comes in from the right field corner, bounces once, and lands in the third baseman's glove.  The runner is out.  It was a perfect throw  (which I was so excited about I yelled "That was a perfect throw!" about 5 times).  He certainly has the tools and I'm sure the work ethic to be a fine defensive outfielder in the majors, given enough seasoning in the minors.

Another thing I remember is once in the later innings, there were two outs, the Suns were up, and Harper was the 3rd or 4th batter scheduled after the player batting.  I saw Harper, literally about 15 feet away from me on the top step of the dugout, with his batting helmet on and his bat in his hands, eager to bat.  I think two guys got on base, but the next batter made the last out.  Before Harper headed out to the field, I thought I saw a grimace of disappointment on his face, like he was really wanting to bat.  It seems like Harper's always eager, he just exudes that love of the game.  It's great to see that.

How have the crowds at Hagerstown been?  Have they been selling out every game?

Harper is sporting a Cary Elwes 'Princess Bride' stache. For the life of me I can't find any recent photos of him wearing it, but I assure you he has it. I'm shocked at the small amount of recent pics of him.

He needs to learn that he is part of an org. that wants to save $ by keeping him in the minors until the 2012 super 2 deadline.
