As a starter, would be an upgrade over what we this season, and could be competent backup to Flores.  Might be costly, however.

That man can hit. A ton. And he plays a few positions. I think blue has a capital idea.

I would never, ever, ever, ever, EVER trade for a reliever.  EVER.

OK, I'm with you and I have posed this question before as have others, "why not utilize the starters we have that will not make the 5 man rotation?"Maybe not all but we seem posed to add two FA starters leaving a group of four to five either sent back to Syracuse or Harrisburg. Most of them seem able to get thru the first AB's fairly unscathed and the remaining AB's they start getting hit harder.Sounds like relief pitchers to me.

Okay, if we can't get an FA for 2B, how about Morse playing 2B, with Guzman rotating (so Morse gets more Major League experience). Morse has played 2B in the Minors, and he swung a powerful bat, at times, during the latter part of last season.....

I'd like Morse to be our first guy off the bench to pinch-hit. He seems to do pretty well in that role.

You think he does better than Willie Harris?

Marc Topkin of the St. Petersburg Times hears that the Rays are on the verge of trading Akinori Iwamura. Topkin's source, who's not with the Rays, says the team close to acquiring Iwamura is not the Dodgers or Cubs.

The Rays have until one day after the end of the World Series to pick up Iwamura's $4.85MM option or buy him out for $550K. The Rays don't need Iwamura thanks to Ben Zobrist's emergence, but it's not surprising that other teams have interest in the Japanese infielder. The 30-year-old has a career line of .281/.354/.393 and he plays a solid second base, according to UZR/150.

The Tampa Bay Rays are rumored to be in the process of finalizing a deal that will send second baseman Akinori Iwamura to a National League team. The trade is expected to be completed Tuesday night.

The deal is believed to be a sign-and-trade.

Why do you think it's the Nats? They have not been rumored to be interested in Iwamura.

I didn't say I thought it was the Nats, just providing more info on the story.  I haven't seen us ruled out anywhere either.  All we know is that it's a national league team.   Reports have ruled out Giants, Cubs and Dodgers.

Wow.  Talk about process of elimination?  We can probably rule out the Phillies (Utley), SD and Florida (too expensive), the Rox (adequate cheap depth) . . .

that doesn't mean it can't be one of those teams.  We all know how reliable those reports can be at times.

Based on nothing more than our specuation and these possibly solid reports here's who may or may not be involved in this trade:
New York
Atlanta
Florida
Philly
Washington

Chicago
St. Louis
Milwaukee
Pittsburgh
Cincinnati
Houston

Los Angeles
San Francisco
San Diego
Arizona
Colorado

I can't even keep straight who plays in the field for them anymore, so I have no idea if the move makes sense.

Strange.  They usually are tight with the money and have Delwyn Young

I naturally assumed it'd be the Braves.  Very strange if it's the Pirates.

Yeah, that's what he was saying.

What are you freakin dense?  It's a sign-and-trade, and we don't really have that much to trade right now.
