if we fire acta today/tomorrow it will feel like we've gone on a 23 game win streak, i'll be so relieved.

It will be a relief but we are still 22 games under and the season is ruined.

Making Riggleman as the replacement is just a temporary fix. I'd like to see them get creative.

Riggleman's just another pat on the ass manager.

true, what about Melvin?

I agree with you though. The next manager we hire needs to have fire and intensity and unwilling to accept losing.

I don't know much about Melvin, but I think he's another "Players" manager. I want Buck Showalter. Not because he's all that good of a manager but he's a total control freak and there WOULD BE INFIELD PRACTICE. Then fire Buck after a year or so and get somebody that's actually a good manager.

Acta knows he has hit the end of the road. You can tell it in his responses and tone.

I keep waiting for Acta to blow up in the press conferences and start cursing and slamming his hands on the desk but it never happens. :?

Any other guy would have lost their cool a long time ago.

does anyone honestly think we'd hire a manager IF we fire Acta? That alone is just a possibility, and far from likely, given what the front office has said.

Bowden resigned in what, April? The team still hasn't named a permanent GM.

IF Acta is let go during the season I expect Riggleman to be interim until the end of the year. The Lerners won't pony up more money for a good manager in-season.

very true. Ideally we would bring in a real manager in this season so he can get acclimated with the team instead of just bringing one in in the off-season.

it's still a shake-up.  as i mentioned in a thread i started a few days ago, the wizards fired their coach in the third week of the season after like 5-6 years and he had actually had success there.

we're just sending a message we're okay with losing.

but i mean, a shake-up isn't really a shake-up unless you bring in someone who either a) is outside the team (no team or minor league guy), meaning the players don't know what to expect, or b) give the job to a guy already on the staff who is so far different from the fired manager, which usually doesn't happen. the caps brought in bruce, who most of the players never worked with, and the guys that did, only had 1 season or so with him, and his style was much different than Hanlon. Would Riggleman really do anything drastically different?

The only way to shake things up is to bring a new voice in the locker room. This can come from a player. Why not try a trade for a veteran catcher or something? We have some assests.

Firing Manny Acta would be akin to the Wizards firing Eddie Jordan. Nothing would change. We just don't have the personnel, particularly the pitching, to match up with anyone.

manny acta = terrible manager
the lerner family = cheap bastards

13-36 ... it's all part of the plan.  maybe we'll finish last every season so we can hold a bunch of number one draft picks and only sign half of them.  i can't wait to see the attendance this homestand, i hope nobody goes out to the park.

Gotta hire Melvin... The connection with Rizzo and everything. That is the obvious option.

It would make a fair amount of sense. The only problem is that there is no evidence that the Nationals are being run like any actual baseball franchise. The Lerners seem content to put the worst possible product on the field and convinced it doesn't matter because they will always get enough tourists, casual observers, and away-team fans to get by. It is a rare ownership group in sports that appears to care so little about its product. So not only is it hard to see how a new manager would be allowed or equipped to succeed, it doesn't seem like the ownership is even motivated to try.

He's smart as hell. If FR could do it, why not Corrales? I don't care if they wheel him out there.

I just thought of something: what if they hired him to be the real manager, but had Riggleman hold the official title so he could walk out to the mound and stuff.

Any uniformed person can walk on the field.
