For the last time, the two-centuries-ago owned-and-used-as-a-farm-by-another-team cleveland spiders do not friggin count.

Basketball ball was barely invented in America by a Canadian implant back then ;) :P

I know, just trying to raise some spirits :)

We could totally have Bryce Harper locked up by the All-Star break.

The Nats have the worst "luck" in the league with a Pythagorean record 7 games better than what their actual record is. We should be 31-51 right now. Still bad but not historically bad.

That would put us on pace for last year's record.

We took care of those nages in Arizona - wusses.  So what's wrong with Cleveland, San Diego and Oakland?

Cleveland is really being stubborn here, we've started to pull from the rest, but the Indians need to get a win or two sometime this month!!

We are on pace to be the only team to finish with at least 100 losses. Cleveland is on pace to finish 64-98.

Eight games clear of the next worst team.   There's just nothing funny about that.

I'll feel more comfortably when we're ten games up on the next most crappy team. On another note, how is cleveland, a team that was just in the WS and that has last year's cy young winner this bad?

1997 to be exact.  Had a freak blizzard roll through Omaha.  The leaves were still on the trees and it was a wet thick snow so it really did a lot of damage to a lot of areas, knocking out power, phones and cable in about half of the city.  The mayor even cancelled Halloween.  Got out of school for a whole week though.

All that being said, I'm suprised the Indians are hanging around this long.  KC is making a charge too.  How pissed would you be if you were a Cleveland fan.  Not only were they thinking playoffs in Spring Training but in any other year, they'd be right there in the running for Bryce Harper.  But the Nats suck on such a different level of sucking this year, they'll miss out on that too!

Cleveland Rocks!

They were in the playoffs a couple years ago, lost to the Yankees.

We've lost five in a row and didn't maek up any ground on the 1962 Mets?  Man they must've really sucked.

Chico addressed this this morning:
Quote
The Nats have 71 games remaining. To hit 120 losses, they'd have to go 16-55 -- a .225 pace. So I tremble and ask: Can this year's team actually hit a lower level? That's what happened to the '62 Mets, who were 24-67 at the 91-game mark. What this team looks like after the trading deadline, and how it responds under Riggleman, will determine the course. Remember, the Nats' rookie pitchers might not last deep into September, so the rotation for the final weeks probably won't get much help from Jordan Zimmermann, Craig Stammen, etc.

Nope.  It was 2007 IIRC, but they beat the Yankees 3-1 in the DS and lost game 7 of the ALCS to Boston after leading 3-1.

I see no way that we beat the '62 Mets record
It would be nice to lose under 110 games.

I think the trade deadline will decide that. If we dump Dunn, Johnson, Willingham and Beimel I think we have a shot.
