it's relates to a video game console though. so it has a place in the video game thread, to a limit.

Linux + hardware != video games.  I'm not moving what's been said, just asking it be taken to the Linux thread if you're going to continue on that tangent.

The NHL series from EA is #1 IMO.

EA's NHL series sucked this year, though. The Show is way better...with the Show I feel like I'm watching a real game, with NHL, not so much.

found an 80gb PS3 on Craigslist. 80 bucks. no cables, no controller.

That seems awfully cheap, I'd be leery of whether it works/is a refurb (not sure if you can tell whether it's a refurb or not). Anyways if it does work, a controller is about $40-50 new and you should be able to grab cables for under $10.

I got NHL '10 a week ago and it's not bad. I started playing on All-Star Mode and usually dominate the CPU in possession time and number of shots but I just can't freaking score. It's so frustrating. The opposing goalie stops everything.

Can't comment, don't play it. (Don't follow hockey).

I've been hooked on Fifa the past month. It gets really competitive and awesome. Its actually created interest in the sport. I'm definitely going to watch alot more of the world cup this year.

The computer cheats like crazy in NHL10 and their AI is a complete farce. Not as bad as Madden, but still awful. The game didn't make the leap that I was expected. Board play is a joke, too.

I've definitely decided on buying a PS3.  just debating on whether I should buy a new one, or buy an older model and install Linux.

I wanna fricken play MAG. MAG, MLB the Show, Home, built-in Wireless, Blu-Ray, and free Online brings me to the yard.

gonna keep monitoring Craigslist for a good deal while I save up for it.  If I can find an Older Model PS3 w/ Controller(s) and all the cables for 150, I'm jumping all over it. If I get to 300 bucks before I find that deal, I'll buy a new one.

What is MAG?  I keep hearing about this game but as I don't really follow consoles I don't know what it is.  "MW2" is the latest and greatest I thought

:old:

edit, nvm - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MAG_%28video_game%29

Love the name.  Why pretty it up when you can just get to the point eh?

Ya I hate when you whoop someone and they pull the plug right before the game ends, thus you don't get credit for the win. It's like playing with a bunch of little kids.

MAG seems to be the absolute closest thing to Planetside that anyone else has ever made.

and Planetside was my favorite. game. ever. EVAR. It was at least 10 years before its time.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlanetSide

MAG is kinda like Planetside, but still on a smaller scale and  "match" based like all Console shooters are, where Planetside was a Persistent World MMO.

supposedly you can have 256 players in a single match in MAG...in Planetside, 256 players was just ONE faction, on ONE continent.

Planetside was a War Game, one of only two of its kind(the other was WWII Online, but it sucked). everything else is a "Shooter".

MAG is a shooter that wants to be a War Game. and that's close enough for now, I guess.

Yeah I was so pumped for Planetside. Too bad I didn't have a strong enough internet connection back then and I never got the chance to play it.

If you read the end of the wikipedia page it looks like they plan on coming out with a new planetside called Planetside Next.

there are more and a lot better deals on xbox360 arcades and otherwise hard drive-less 360s than there are for ps3s of any kind on craigslist.

wonder why that is.

DON'T TURN ON YOUR PS3'S TODAY!

Y2K Bug is screwing with systems right now... apparently the clock can't handle the leap year and is resetting all PS3's to 12/31/99.

i saw this. i was playing last night at like 930 and had no issues. the place in CP said they know how to fix it (take out your internal battery for a couple minutes and then put it back in). we'll see what sony does. will it be bad for me even to try to play it? cause last night it was acting fine and i know some people had issues last night

BATTLEFIELD BAD COMPANY 2!!! Shooter of the year out today :D

I'm probably going to go down and sell MW2 last this week. BC2 is going to crap all over it so I won't need it anymore (haven't played it in months, anyways).

Try and look for people buying MW2 on craigslist. Gamestop offered me $23 for it for store credit, I turned around and sold it for $40 the next day.

That was maybe 2 weeks ago.

The game has just become way too much like Halo. No realism, so many glitches, so many little kids. BC2 I knew would beat it, but I thought it'd be a lot closer. I loved MW2 at first but now can't stand it.

This is exactly how I feel, after playing the BC2 demo for weeks I have no desire to play MW2. Perhaps I should take eckseid's advice and sell it.
