Two to two in a half hours depending on traffic.

I'm gonna be in Richmond the weekend of May 16th for a family reunionish thing and was hoping to make the trip up to DC for one of those games.  But it sounds like it wouldn't go over very well if I disappeared for 6-8 hours on Saturday evening, even if I went with some others from the gathering.  Oh well.  That's what I get for being the rogue sports fan of the family.  I'm hoping to make it down to St. Louis for a couple of those games in August.  So, there may be some hope yet to get to see the Nats in person.

It can be done in under 1 1/2 hours but it can also take up to 2 1/2 if traffic is real bad.  Getting to the game might take you a while, the return trip to Richmond should be no problem.

What do you drive? The Jetson's car?

That's not really the issue, I'd probably drive four hours or more if it were up to me.  It's more of my 80 year old privledged aunt who wouldn't look kindly on a sojourn like that.  I'm a little disappointed though, but I don't want to offend her either.  I'm really going to try and get to St. Louis.

It's just under 100 miles, the speed limit is 65 most of the way, so it takes almost exactly 1 1/2 hours in moderate traffic.

It sorta depends on what side of Richmond he's on, and is there going to be heavy traffic on inbound 395 or not.  If he's North of Richmond and gets no traffic, 90 minutes might be doable, but it's more a theoretical possibility than a solid planning number.

Moderate traffic, you're joking, right?

I used to make a daily commute from downtown Richmond to Crystal City, 90 minutes is possible on Sunday mornings before 10am All other times, plan for 2-1/2 hours.

Traffic through Fredricksburg and crossing the Occaquon on a Saturday is routinely a killer, and that's northbound, southbound, even late after a game would likely be pretty heavy.

There was a time you could've seen some pretty good AAA ball in Richmond, but the Braves pulled out last year.

The Potomac Nationals might be playing that weekend, that'd save you about an hour drive time each way...

God, that area is an absolute bloodbath. From that point I am like only 10 to 15 minutes away from my parents house and it turns into a 45 minute to an hour escapade that leaves my heart rate in a frenzy and my knuckles bloody from pounding my steering wheel so much.

Three words - "Books on Tape"
the only thing that could distract me enough on that commute and keep my blood pressure manageable.

If going to a big league game isn't going to fly, going to a minor league certainly won't either.  If it were up to me...

Ha, she'd never go, even if it were right across the street.

It took me 75 minutes at 75 MPH from Alexandria to get south of Richmond on the way down to spring training a couple weeks ago, of course I left just before 4 AM.  Coming home it was raining and I hit heavy traffic the whole way so it took a couple hours.  Driving to a Saturday night game from Richmond I would expect it to take just over two hours, getting back can easily be done in under 1 1/2.

You're only going to have your 80 year old Aunt for so long, so maybe catch the NATS on one of your other away trips.  Check the St. Louis schedule for when they play the NATS.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too.  The St. Louis series is the only one that is a weekend series on their midwest trips this year (Chicago, Denver, Milwaukee, St. Louis).  I'm hoping to get down there in stead.
