Nieto has been disappointing so far this season in the GCL. He doesn't turn 20 until November though.

J.R. Higley with a Grand Slam tonight for the Lake Monsters

He has been red hot lately. 15 for his last 37 (.405) with a Double, Triple, HR, 8 RBIs, 2 BBs, 8 Ks, 1 SB, 1 CS.

Burgess hit his 17th and 18th HRs tonight for Potomac.

He's a one trick pony. 18 Doubles and 18 HRs in 372 ABs with a .231 BA and 109 Ks.

Lehman made his debut for Hagerstown tonight: 5 IP 6 H 4 ER 0 BB 4 K.

Frias pitched a scoreless inning out of the pen. Why are him and Jaime not starting?

Robinson Fabian (who we got in the Beimel trade) made his debut in relief: 1 IP 2 H 1 R 0 ER 0 BB 1 K.

Teams will put younger guys in the pen at the end of seasons because of innings counts. They don't want to just stop them in August, so you'll see them out of the pen or starting, but only going a couple of innings. I believe they did that with Zimmermann last season.

Nationals acquired OF Norris Hopper and 1B/DH Daryle Ward from White Sox for cash; both are reportedly headed to Syracuse (Ward already listed as such, Hopper not yet)

The top of the 3rd inning that Higley hit that HR, was INSANE. Auburn got the first 2 outs. Then 15 more batters came to the plate. They scored all 12 runs on 6 hits, 6 walks, 1 error, a WP and the grand slam. Just a bizzare inning!

He turned 22 a few weeks ago and is playing real well in the NY-Penn League. Was a Dominican FA signing from a few years ago.

.330 (32/97), 7 Doubles, 1 Triple, 15 RBIs, 19 BBs, 15 Ks, 14 SBs, 6 CS.

Soriano plays a spectacular 2nd base when he doesnt have to think about it. He's made at least 3 amazing diving stops to end bad jams. But if its hit right at him? Vapor lock.

At the plate, hes been solid all year long. He's hit in the 9 hole a lot, and picked up some crucial RBIs and he's working on a 2-3 game tonight in the lead off spot. Baserunning is ok, he gets a lot of CS, and he's been picked off a few times. But he can fly.

And as for Higley, he's heating up because he's playing.... He missed 7 games after fouling a ball of his foot in a Monday night game v. Brooklyn about 2 weeks ago. Now that hes back getting ABs, he's hitting the ball well.

Rob, are you posting while you call a game? Wouldn't be the first poster here to share some posting time with work.

By the way, we have a poster by the name of First Base Lady, not a frequent poster but a few times a year she drops in, she's part of a host family for young players in Vermont. SHe's been doing it for years, and also makes an annual trip to DC to see some of her kids play for the Nats or Potomac, or Hagerstown.

Just an FYI in case you run into her up there.

Nice to have you aboard Rob. we need more Lake Monster (and other Minors Affiliate) folks around these parts. we don't get to see the youngsters play every day like you all do. maybe we can set up some forums for Affiliate team-specific discussions...but then again, I don't think we have enough of an Affiliate-focused posting base for that. most of us are here in DC.

from my searching experience, Minor League teams typically don't have Fan Message boards of their own. i wonder why that is? not enough interest?

Behind our gruff exterior, we really are a bunch of softies that love the Nats and all their Affiliates.

We just have umm....disagreements about team operations and such..heh..heh..

Unfourtuantly, I only was assigned 15 road games this year, and am not in Auburn right now. Listened to the Doubleday's call most of the weekend. I will be back at Centnnial tomorrow night, and I will make the road trip to Batavia on the 11-12-13th (last road trip).

I know one host family, not sure if its the same one who posts here, but I'll ask!

And my dad is Bob Ryan. Well, not THAT Bob Ryan either, but... ya know... lol

She also travels to spring training every year with a group of her female friends. Can't be too many host family moms doing that.
