btw Sean Rooney is a hitting machine.

He has a 7 game hitting streak for the Senators and is batting .351 since the promotion.

Anyone complaining about trading for a guy with TJ - see Atilano, Luis.

Atilano induced 15 groundouts today. His sinker is silly.

He has a 3.70 ERA over his last 10 starts in AA.

Atilano is 24 right now and had TJ in his early 20's. Mattheus is 25 right now and just had Tommy John so he will be 27 when he comes back. What kind of value is a 27 year old reliever in AAA who is recovering from TJ? He was so bad as a prospect that John Sickels didn't even list him in the Rockies prospect list and that was before TJ.

Hoyt Wilhelm was 29 when he first pitched in the majors. Kent Tekulve was 27 his first big league game. Doug Jones pitched a total of 2 2/3 innings before turning 29.

Who cares what age a relief pitcher is as long as he can get outs?

For some reason we're playing Evan Bronson a RP in RF today for Vermont and he's batting fifth... at least according to game tracker that's what happening.

Bronson has been pitching well so I wonder what the deal is?

Maybe a double switch.

Nice shut-out by the Chiefs tonight.

Estrada: 6 IP 5 H 0 ER 0 BB 4 K
Novoa: 1 IP 0 H 0 ER 0 BB 1 K
Wilkie: 1 IP 0 H 0 ER 0 BB 1 K
Segovia: 1 IP 0 H 0 ER 0 BB 0 K

Segovia has been dominant since his promotion to AAA. 13 IP 8 H 1 ER 4 BB 14 K (1-0, 1 Save, 0.69 ERA)

He was 2nd round pick by the Phillies in the '02 draft. He is 26 years old. Maybe he has found his niche as a reliever.

It will be interesting to see which of these guys the Nats put on the 40-man roster and bring up in September.

A lot of candidates: Zinicola, Wilkie, Segovia, Novoa, Spradlin, Everts.

Anyone else see in NJ that Marrero won't get called up to AA this season?

"Over the last 75 games, we're probably as good as any team in this league. When you're 21 games under .500, things are looking real bad. So to pull out of that and come back the way we have, all while still sending players [to Class AAA], well, I'm more proud of the players this year than I've been at any time during my years here." -- AA Senators manager John Stearns.

Come on man, you and I both know we'll call up one, maybe two, retread veterans in AAA or AA and call it a year.

I don't know. Last year we gave guys like Hinckley and Mock a chance in the pen at the end of the season.

Obviously we won't be able to call up all of those guys but it would be nice to see what a few of them got.

You can expect to see Martis, Detwiler, Estrada, and maybe Morse. Desmond is a long shot, mainly because of his poor defense in AAA.

I listened to the whole game today, and did not hear this... I'm guessing error.

I know JJ Sferra came in and Higley shifted to right, and Bloxum played some 3rd today (a first, i think).  Bronson pitched yesterday, so... agian, i think this is an error.

**EDIT: Just double checked what I heard.  Sferra replaced Walker as a pinch runner, and then went to CF.  Higley moved to right, Bloxum moved to 3rd.  JP Ramierez was the DH today.  So, thats that.

I read that the Lake Monsters may have to move due to horrible stadium conditions in Vermont.  Read the post I put above.

They upkeep on a 103 year old, wood and steel ballpark must be tremendous.
