Too bad we had to trade Gunderson, he was one of the only decent relievers we have in the entire system.
? that sucks. relief pitching should be the easiest thing to stockpile in your farm system.

I'd really like to see them take a couple of college relievers in this year's draft. Preferably ones better than Zinicola and Carr who are both trash.

No way.  You take college starters and if they can't cut it as starters, you move them to the pen.  Drafting relievers is not a good decision, especially with your higher draft picks.

I didn't say higher picks. just somewhere in the middle rounds.

converting starters into relievers has failed miserably for us so far.

okay outing for Detwiler tonight in Harrisburg: 5 IP 6 H 3 R 1 ER 3 BB 2 K. He's in line to get the win if the pen holds it.

He hasn't been stellar nor bad so far in Harrisburg this year. Kind of like last year in Potomac. Just average. His current ERA after today's start stands at 4.15.

so much for Detwiler getting his first win. Novoa and Zinicola gave up 8 hits and 4 runs in 3 innings of relief to blow it.

The Senators had 19 hits tonight and only 6 runs. 7 players for them had 2 or more hits. and despite all that they lost 7-6 for their 11th straight defeat.

another decent start by DET last night, i'm cool with it.

and harrisurg is playing akron right now, the senators trying to end their skid.  :az: cory van allen :az: is on the bump with a 1-0 lead in the bottom 3rd.

it seems like CvA gets rattled easily.  he fell apart in the 4th.

VanAllen seems to be a future LHRP to me ... stuff isn't there for starts.

I suppose. he's given up like 6 HRs in 16 IP this season.

The Harrisburg Senators are the worst baseball team on the planet. :spaz:

I thought these were the same guys that won the Carolina league last season.

Some of the same guys. A lot of these guys were on this Harrisburg team last year though like Mike Daniel, Rhinehart, Baez, Lowrance, Leonard Davis, etc. Most of those guys are okay players but not really big prospects. Most of the highly regarded players are in Potomac still.

Harrisburg's rotation looks good on paper but they aren't as a whole getting the job done. Detwiler has been okay, not great, but okay. Atilano who was great for Potomac last year has really struggled. VanAllen has been a disaster. Justin Jones has been the best of the bunch. Alaniz just came back from the DL and was okay in his first start back.

Worst of all is the relief pitching. Other than Josh Wilkie the rest have been pretty bad.

Desmond getting injured didn't help Harrisburg any. He was playing real well and with him out they had to play Michael Martinez at SS and he has made a bunch of errors and hasn't done much with the bat.

Rhinehart was really bad for the first few weeks but he is coming around a little bit. (4 walks to 13 Ks on the season)

Same with Leonard Davis. He has struggled for the most part but is coming around a little bit. (2 Walks to 17 Ks on the season)

Adam Carr, Matt Avery, Yunior Novoa, and Zack Segovia have been awful out of the pen.

Wasn't Van Allen hurt last season?

I'll give you 3/4 on that. Segovia has had one bad outing. Prior to that he was putting up good numbers for the Senators. He got torched in his last outing but prior to that he had gone 9 1/3 allowing ten hits, no walks, and only one earned run while striking out eight.

Yes. They never officially reported what it was but I was told by a couple of folks it was a tired arm.

yeah. he was off to a really good start too. 3-0 with a 0.66 ERA in Potomac and then pitched in Harrisburg for a while before getting injured.

He finished last year with a 5.13 ERA in 10 AA starts.

So far this year he is 0-2 with a 7.31 ERA.

Minor leagues seem like a crap shoot. Some pitchers are working on one pitch and the team isn't looking at anything beyond how well that is progressing. Others are trying to build arm strength or simply compile a bunch of innings.

Moving VanAllen to the pen might be a good idea at this point, he had some good innings, but overall it sounded like he was laboring out there for most of the game.  I know I've said it before, but the same is true for Detwiler.  I am almost certain Detwiler would not make a good major league starter from the games I have seen him play in, the games I have listened to him pitch in, and the things that I have read about him.

I thought Detwiler's problems were control related. (He can't repeat his pitches)?
