mitch williams and harold reynolds are saying the nats have been doing the right thing with letting the young guys play and how it's paying off.  said martis and zimmermann are looking like experienced veterans.  williams also said he likes balester and expect to see him up at some this season (and how he talked w/ some guys in our front office that are still high on bally).

It does help that Bally's agent is Larry Reynolds whose is the brother to Harold Reynolds! LOL! YES,  Bally is really working on keeping the ball down and lowering his back leg  to get more power when he works out of the stretch. Bally is the next one up as a starter that is why they won't bring him up as a relief guy. He could have went 7-8 innings but they pinch hit for him in the 7th inning. Great outing for the kid. A month of those and Bally will be ready.

Balester is a starter and has starter stuff.  We all know he has the fastball and can use it as a weapon and his curve as his plus-out pitch.  If he can:

a) really develop that change-up
b) adjust to hitters second and third time through line-up
c) improve on pitching from the stretch
d) pound the ball down in the zone
e) trust his stuff (use that surfer laid back mentality he has to his advantage)

he is really going to have a bright career.

He has really started to click with keeping the ball down. In yesterday's game he got behind hitters but with low pitches. He had 10 ground outs and 1 flyball out! He is also working on pitching out of the stretch and is starting to gain the power and a lower ball with that back leg getting a little bit lower.

He is starting to have fun and the Surfer Dude is getting ready to " Hang Ten Wins"  up there in the bigs when he gets the call.  Another  3-4 outings to stay consistant and the Nationals should have their #3 or # 4 starter ready for a long time.
For all of us ... it will be worth the wait!!

Honestly, as much as I'm interested in seeing what Colin's got, our guys are starting to click. Injuries are inevitable and I'm glad he's staying sharp. I'm sure we'll need him at some point.

Out of curiousity, how many pitches does he have?

Harrisburg falls in the first of a double header this morning.  They have now lost the last 4 games and are 2-8, not where I was expecting them to be at this point in the year.  The starting pitching has been on and off, the bats have been silent some games, and the bullpen has been disastrous at times.  Hopefully they can turn the ship around.

Desmond has been replaced by Michael Martinez at shortstop, his natural position.  No word on his status.  Don't know what is going to happen with this situation if Desmond is out for a long period of time.  They could move Espinosa up and just have Daniel Lyons play short at Potomac, or they might just let Martinez go at short at AA for awhile.  We will see.

O'Connor threw 5.2 innings, let up 4 H, 1 ER, 1 BB and struck out 6.  He was unlucky to get the loss, but the lineup failed to produce any runs.

They aren't hitting. Leonard Davis, Bill Rhinehart, etc. are doing nothing.

Haha, it is funny that you mention those two specifically.  Both just hit solo home runs for Harrisburg to tie up the game 2-2.  Justin Jones is on the mound and pitched well the first time through the line-up, but is laboring now.

about time they produced.

Willie Harris is batting 2nd and playing CF for Syracuse. Bard is catching Marco Estrada.

Milledge drew a walk in the first and then stole 2nd.

I feel real bad for Justin Jones and Mike O'Connor.  Both had great starts today, but didn't have any backing from the offense.  2 runs in 14 innings is pretty pathetic.

Justin Jones had a good start, 6.1 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 SO.  He pitched all the way into the seventh and then let up a single.  He got a ground out and then was relieved by Zach Segovia.   Segovia then proceeded to let the game winning run get all the way home.  Rhinehart and Davis had a solo HR each and Rhinehart reached base in all three plate appearances (HR, 1B, BB).  Harrisburg is seriously lacking the extra base hits right now and RBI drives from their guys.  The bullpen has also been god awful.  That is five straight losses for Harrisburg to move to 2-9.

good to see that about Justin Jones, I'm a fan of his.  As for Estrada, I wasn't impressed with him or his stuff when he was in the bigs last year.  Should he be a starter or relief?

I was impressed with his stuff. deceptive delivery, 90 mph fastball, sharp breaking ball. He bombed as a reliever so it looks like they are putting him back in the starter role where he excelled last year in the Minors and at the beginning of this year.

Ideally you'd want him to try to be a reliever but at this point he is more comfortable starting. maybe a #5 down the road

ouch, bad loss for the Chiefs. had a 2-1 lead and then Dave Williams and Gary Glover combined to give up 4 runs. 5 game winning streak snapped.

Update: He's now down to .118, with a double, a single, and two walks in 17 ABs... OBP of .211, OPS of .387. He hasn't gotten a hit since last Saturday.

LOL. Nook > Lastings.

why is Clippard pitching out of the bullpen? although he's performing well out of the 'pen, i'd like to see him get another shot as a starter on the big club.

Leonard Davis with a bombbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb in the first inning, Senators up 1-0.  Let's go Sens!  Hopefully Detwiler has a productive outing.

ight det, nice 1st.  forces three groundouts and gives up just a soft groundball single just out of reach of 2nd baseman.

1-0 senators going to the 2nd.

he has a better chance to make it as a reliever. If he keeps performing lights out in relief he will get a call up soon.
