We need this guy to make the major league squad, just so ownership can see what a joke these signings are. No, really, look at that face.
I think we now know why he always wears sunglasses, even when indoors. To cover up his ugliness.  :spaz:

Wow, these signings really are a joke.

Jorge Sosa is suspended for 50 games for violating the League's Steroid policy.

Quote
On August 22, 2008, Jorge was suspended 50 games by major league baseball for using an amphetamine that is used as a performance enhancing drug.

Dumpster divers we indeed are.

I don't mind the Chacin and Patterson signings at all. Patterson could return to '06 form, which could help if we need an emergency outfielder. Chacin, if healthy, gives us an extra Major League-ready arm in the minors. These are just depth signings. NONE of these guys will make the Major League team out of ST.

Are you joking, Patterson had a .238 OBP last year. Chacin had a 7.88 era in the minors last year and has had a history of elbow problems. Wishful thinking on any hope for anyone we've signed today. No other team even looked once at these guys, if the Nationals weren't in MLB, these guys wouldn't even be playing ball this year. They'd be flipping burgers at McDs.

If they were good vets, they'd all be on Major League teams. These are just the type of players that you put on your Triple-A team to see if one or more will work out. If they do well, you can use them as emergency call-ups or trade them to a team that DOES need them. If they don't work out, no real harm done.

These guys were signed to MINOR league deals. I don't see why we are upset? They only get the 800,000 or whatever, if they make the 25 man roster.
What is wrong with trying to stack your minor system? Most of these guys we will never end up seeing.

The Nationals haven't signed any normal players, ever. We get the guys that rode to school on the little bus. Hell, half the guys on our roster wear bicycle helmets to and from the ballpark. Maybe if the Nationals signed a legitimate player for just once we wouldn't be so critical of the minor signings.

Chacin is a good no risk signing. I don't give a crap about eyebrows, just WHIP and K/9

just in case anyone is interested,

Cabrera and Jorge Sosa are both playing for Licey in the Dominican League.

Cabrera's only pitched 4 innings so far though, he seems to have just joined the team or something. I dunno what's up with that.

Sosa's been used as a full-on starter, and has actually pitched pretty decently, so far.

Those are excellent numbers for him. His Ks are down, but so are his walks. It looks like he's probably taken something off his pitches to gain more accuracy.

Looking through the Licey roster, I see that D'Angelo Jimenez has a higher batting average than Emilio Bonifacio. :( (Both in the .280s.) Anderson Hernandez is still cruising at above .360, and has 20 doubles.

Emilio Bonifacio isn't ours anymore
He was in the deal to Florida for Olsen and Willingham.

I know that. But I like to check on him, see how he's doing.

it looks to me like he pitches better as a starter than as a reliever.

he's still not *good*, but he's horrible as a reliever, and just about passable as a starter.
