Gary Williams is overrated.  He hit the jackpot with that recruiting period where he got Francis, Baxter, Morris, Wilcox, Blake, and Dixon, but the Maryland teams surrounding that period have been nothing to write home about.

He's a better coach than a recruiter.

I think the players were too busy studying to go to practice.

He has done so much for that program, I would definitely not call him overrated.  What hurts is the area has become a hotbed for talent and other schools have done a better job recruiting the local kids.  The Terps picked up the Baltimore player of the year, Sean Mosley, who will be a pretty good player one day.  He does better with less, trust me.

The best thing about Gary is he does his best coaching job when is back is against the wall.  It wouldn't surprise me if the Terps won the first few games in ACC play.

That's not his fault to some extent?

I'm not saying he's not a really good coach, but they could do better.  The problem is that it'd be unlikely to find a better coach.  It's too big of a gamble, so we'll keep one who isn't likely to make aan elite 8 again any time soon.

Sucks, I was hoping the Terps would get them first, like last season.

hey SF, sorry to disappoint you...but i think VCU is going to win the CAA. Maynor will lead them--imo, he's the best pg and most clutch player in the nation.

GMU is such a well rounded team with a good mix of experienced players and talented sophomores/freshmen. They are lethal from the outside and they can score inside too with the likes of Daryl Monroe and Louis Birdsong. And of course like any Jim Larranaga team we play lock down defense.

GMU is currently ranked 41st in the AP polls and is steadily climbing. Tough games upcoming though @ William Mary, Home vs JMU, @ Northeastern, and then @ VCU.

I am eagerly anticipating that first match-up against VCU on January 24th. It's going to be televised Nationally on ESPN2.

CAA Standings
George Mason (5-0, 11-3)
Northeastern (5-0, 10-5)
VCU   (4-1, 11-5)
James Madison (3-2, 11-6)

ya, that should be a battle. i think Maynor is a man on a mission as a senior, people have somewhat forgotten about him since his March heroics as a sophomore. I'll never forget that game winner vs Duke, that was glorious.

he's got a solid supporting cast too.

Only by 14 and PSU was at home. That's not what I would call "destroyed them".

William & Mary is pretty bad this year. We should take care of business on Wednesday night in Williamsburg. W&M has already lost home games this year to Navy, VCU, ODU, and JMU.

You didn't watch the game. PSU took 1 half off. Sounds oddly familiar

You use the opposite arguments for the mid-major football conferences to suit your needs for mid-major basketball. You think GMU is a legitimate contender but you worry about W&M.

It's a conference road game. I'm more concerned though against facing Northeastern and VCU on the road. Both teams are legit.

Tough loss for ND against Louisville tonight. freaking awesome game, though. They were just dog tired in OT.

Outscored 16-2 in OT? 2 points in 5 minutes? really?

ND currently 7th place in the Big East. yikes.

They were so dead. Louisville definitely has more depth, but ND has the better starters. ND should have won in regulation, but they didn't get a shot up.

7th in the Big East still equals Top 25 in the country.

Georgetown is a hard team to rate. They look great sometimes, but I've seen them play terribly on both ends a couple times, too.

Greg Monroe keeps getting better. He's extremely quick for a big man and he's a great passer.
