I did the comparison earlier before Manny's monster finish in LA :-[

but last year I think they were closer . . .

2007 Manny had his worst OBS since his rookie year (1994) .881 to .878. Dunn on the other hand has a career OBS of .899.

Yup, until his monster finish, Dunn and Manny had 1.75 seasons where they were really comparable. You have to wonder if "motivated" Manny would should up in DC in 2009.

That's my biggest concern with Ramirez. Problems would inevitably arise and we could potentially be stuck with a disgruntled player demanding to be traded and taking nights off. That would get the Nats some ESPN exposure, which would please a lot of people, but then they would be certain that ESPN hates the Nats.

I'm hearing "rumblings" of Tex to the Orioles for 8/188m. nothing official, and nothing from the "insiders" at OH though. OH has so much traffic right now that I can't even get into it.

just random chatter elsewhere. so take it for what little it is worth.

Some other stats to consider. Manny has averaged 107 RBIs a season over his entire career (including 1993 when he was a September call up). Dunn has never had a 107 RBI season. Manny has averaged over 30 doubles a season, Dunn has broken that number twice.

There aren't too many hitters that compare with Manny. Even Alex Rodriguez and all of his gaudy numbers has a lower career OBS than Manny.

Is Roy Firestone the OH insider?

I didn't read this on OH.

but yes, Roy Firestone is one of them. and apparently he's actually THE Roy Firestone, if the guy that runs the Baltimore Sun's Orioles blog is accurate.

Never put much faith in the OH insiders, but IF that were the case, I would like to see us go 9/195 or something or maybe 10/200.

again, I did not read this at OH.  it's just some random commentary I came across. nothing official.  and it was stated as 8 years, 23.5m per year.

I've been trying to get into OH to see if that is where the chatter started, but there is so much web traffic that the site has ground to a halt.

their group is a lot like ours but obviously a lot more people.  some people are unrealisticly positive/upbeat, while others make sportsfan look like an optimist.

I gotta think that OH is where this latest rumor started.

cause the entire OH Website has crashed.

SOMETHING had to have happened to get that much web traffic all at once there.

RBI - do I care? Look at the lineup the Reds have. Manny was on good Indians lineups, right? (My memory is foggy)

I figured that Manny was on a decline based on 1.75 seasons of data, and that Dunn would hold steady or improve. I'm not arguing who was the best historical player, just on their worth to us next year.

RBI's are as much about opportunity as they are in delivery.

That's a more eloquent version of what I was trying to say. I'm working on 3 different things right now.

O's are going to nab him. I believe it now. Sounds like they'll announce it in the next day or so.

The BP disciples are preaching.

They did a neat article in one of their books on the worst 100 RBI seasons of all time.  Meaning, highlighting mediocre performances that were coupled with great many opportunities, and looked good to those who value RBI as a meaningful stat.  Joe Carter had a number of these seasons, padding his RBI totals at a modest clip while stranding record numbers of runners.

As I said on Saturday, I've been really doubting are chances of landing him.  Just not that great of a "knockout offer".  We better hope Dunn can really drive in some runs and provide somewhat of a glove.

Er, not sure if they have it online, but I will look, since you seem so genuinely interested.

It was printed as a chapter in the "Everything you know about the game is wrong" book.

I am interested. I would not have asked you to produce it if I weren't interested.

Can you imagine sportsfan in the game thread every time Dunn fails to drive in a run or K's?
