The Boston Globe reports the Red Sox are going to make a BIG offer to Teixeira. Like, the largest contract in franchise history, is what it said.
That's okay. I'm sure whatever the Nats throw out will probably be the largest contract in "their franchise history" as well. No big deal.

I really don't know what to make of this situation. it is really either one of two things....teh Nats are seriously going to make a run at him(which they must realize will probably require a bigger offer than more established, "name" teams) or they are just bluffing to make it seem as though they are serious about this franchise.Guys, i hate to continualy harp on this, but I think we are facing a decison that is going to define what kind of team we have/are able to have under this ownership group. If they are not only unwilling to pony up serious cash for this type of guy(who is really a more perfect fit that can be imagined, with himm beuing from this area), when will they?Face it, the attendance, fan support, and TV numbers for this team in their 4th year in this major market town with a new stadium is HORRIBLE. Yes, the Lerners are making money for now, but if this continues and the stadium is a hulking piece of crap in 10-15 years we will be an even bigger joke than we are now.I'm not saying we need to get Teixeira, but if they are using this as a season ticket promotiojal smokescreen these people (the lerners) are more clueless than we could have imagined, and we are in trouble as DC baseball fans.Let's hope for the best.
The Nationals will go on with or without Teixeria and everyone of you guys will be on these boards the day after he signs somewhere regardless.It isn't the end of the world and it doesn't mean we'll never go anywhere if we don't sign him. Competition for this type of caliber of player is going to be heavy and there is only going to be one winner and a bunch of losers. You should consider it lucky that a team with only five years under it's belt is even attempting to make a jump at a player like this.We get him (and I don't think we will and it has nothing to do with the Lerners or how cheap or not cheap they are) good. We don't, oh well.
Not signing him means we will continue to suck. Signing him doesn't instantly turn us into a contender, but boy it's a good step in the right direction.

The Nats have seperate budgets for draft picks and for signing free agents/improving MLB roster. I hope everyone knows that.I'm okay with signing Dunn/FA pitcher, but I think Teix is the ideal way to go.
What FA pitcher are we in the running for, the Yankeess have made Burnett and CC offers we won't come close to. Lowe and the Sox seem close.
so then, if we sign Tex, then we don't sign EITHER of our top 2 draft picks? and we can't possibly acquire any other player? really? signing Teixeira makes doing ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING ELSE utterly impossible?
So how is Tex going to singlehandedly lead this team to not sucking next season? Considering the amount of holes we have.
