We lost this reason for exactly one reason:

Our left-handed "specialists" (i.e., Eischen & Stinkton). They faced 5 left-handed batters (the guys they were put in the game to get out). The results:

5 plate appearances= 4 BB + 1 single + 1 GW RBI

Awful. Just awful. Just when I think Eischen is the worst LHP I've ever seen, in comes Stinkton.

What a shame for the rest of the team. They played so well.

I think that Hernandez got himself too tired out running the bases & that's why he completely lost it in the 8th :wink:

Well, if Livan didn't weight 300 pounds, and I think I'm being nice, he might actually do better on the mound

Did you see when he scored from 2nd? He looked like he was gonna die running 180 feet without stopping. I guess I should say "running"

after livans second double and sorianos single, when the phillies changed pitchers he went over to the dugout for water.

i wont be upset with last night's loss unless the nats lose today. i just feel like it is the kinda thing where the nats werent going to sweep them. so if they won last night they would lose today, vice versa. I know last night and today have nothing to do with each other, but...

yeah, so if they lose today, i'll be pissed.

they need to come home with some momentum. hopefully traber can baffle some people

Svrluga said on Kornheiser yesterday that if Eischen continued to struggle, he wouldnt be surprised if they "discovered" he had tendonitis

My heart sank when Eischen went in. I have no confidence in him whatsoever. He can't throw strikes, and when he does they pummel him. Bring Bray up, or a decent right hander.

Lefties sucked last night...Stanton might have just had a bad night, but Eischen is showing every indication of being done. Too bad, because I liked Joey last season, but I've pretty much given up on him this year. Stanton scares me as a person (picking Toby Keith as your theme music is a prima facie case of scariness), but he might still be a useful lefty weapon...well, here's to hoping, anyways.

Is it true that the Phillies had used their entire bench and the pitcher was batting after Howard and we still pitched to him, with a base open?

That's what I heard on ESPN this morning? Does anyone else know if this is true?

it was first and second. they had no bench according to the tv guys. its not like there were two outs. i'm not opposed to pitching to howard. he did hit a ground ball, just through a hole. a little to the right or left and its a double play

But you have a much better chance of winning if you load the bases and pitch to the pitcher! Pitching to the pitcher instead of Ryan Howard is an easy choice, I think.

There was no open base, so walking Howard puts a man on 3rd with only 1 out. Much easier to score from 3rd in that situation than from 2nd. Don't forget that after the pitcher, you would have to pitch to Jimmy Rollins again.

Plus HOward is terrible against lefties, he hit less than .200 last year against them. So do you pitch to Howard with man on 2nd, then the pitcher, or to the pitcher and then Rollins, with man on 3rd in both cases?

The right decision was made, the ball just went in the hole vacated by Johnson holding the runner.

Wasn't Rollins leading off? I believe he was. ESPN also showed the Phillies batting order and, I believe, the pitcher due up was batting 7th. Rollins wasn't coming up.

If this is true then we'd have to get the pitcher to hit into a double play (certainly possible) or get an out and get the 8th hitter out, very possible.

The best hitter they would have had left until the went back to the top of the order was Ryan Howard and, if I'm manager, I don't pitch to him. I make the pitcher or the #8 spot beat me.

actually i dont think rollins was up after the pitcher. howard wasnt hitting 8th. there was a double switch in there at some point.

but still you load the bases and pitcher hits a slow roller, game over. scoring from third with less than 2 outs isnt as hard as the nats make it look. also, after you load the bases you need to thro strikes
