Healthy Strasburg, healthy Zimmermann, healthy Wang, healthy Lannan, healthy Detwiler/Marquis is a playoff rotation in 2011. If we trade Marquis, we'll have $32 million to spend on the 2011 roster (Guz, Dunn, Kennedy, Capps). As nice as it would be to spend that money on Josh Beckett and have a top-5 rotation in all the MLB, I think we will need to invest in some bigtime hitters for first and the outfield. I would like to see a breakout year from Desmond and breakout half-years from Flores, Storen, and one more position player. For Zimmermann the goal this year, when he pitches in August and September, is just to make sure he still can and is looking okay and ready to step it up next year.

I think we'll extend Dunn.  Take the rest of that money and chase Crawford, Werth, Kubel, etc.  The rotation should be fine with others in the system.

would be awesome, but he's going to cost so much and it sounds like the yanks want him bad.

Okay, if our 2011 offseason consists of adding Carl Crawford and extending Adam Dunn, ...man.

I would expect the Yanks to go after Crawford over Werth simply because he's 3 years younger.  Both are good defensive players, Werth with more power but Crawford is a base stealing monster.  I'd love to go with a top 4 in the 2011 lineup of:

Morgan
Crawford
Zimmerman
Dunn

That's two monster base stealers followed by two disciplined power bats.  If C, SS and 2B get straightened out by that point we will be looking good.

Wheres the 2B going to come from? I still think thats a problem until Espinosa/someone shines in our system.

Damn, I would love to grab Crawford. :az: :az:

Espinosa was my thought there.  I actually wouldn't mind two years of Desmond/Kennedy up the middle with Espinosa having to force his way into the lineup.  Of course, that sets the stage for the Kobernus watch.

We don't need Zobrist... we just need to send someone to the guy Zobrist went to, to change his swing.

yeah I really think the FO is banking on a middle infield of Desmond and Espinosa/Kobernus.

In 2011 the club has a $2 million option on Adam Kennedy.

Why move Espinosa to 2B when he is a lot better defensively than Desmond. We aren't even sure yet that Desmond can go a full season without 40 errors. Move him to 2B where his throwing issues aren't a problem.

Not in our life time. this year at MLB minimum plus 3 years of arbitration coming up.  2014 before he's an FA unless they sign him.  he'll turn 35 that season.

Desmond has more range than Espinosa.  Desmond's throwing issues are much like Zim in that he airmails the easy ones.  Once his concentration is worked on he'll be the SS.

For what its worth, BA has Espinosa as the system's best defensive infielder and Desmond as the best infield arm. They have Desmond as #4 and Espy as #5 prospect (behind the 3 obvious ones), but with Desmond having been in the majors while Espinosa no higher than A+, Desmond picks up a bonus from BA for being closer to the majors.

I've gotten to see a good chunk of both guys at Potomac and both showed me enough that I wouldn't mind whatever 2B/SS combination of them at the MLB level.  I think Desmond has more range than Espinosa but if Espy ends up the better pure fielder then we get a 2B with tremendous range.  BTW, for those worried about the error totals for Desmond, Espinosa committed 22 at Potomac last season.

Nothing suggests that Nats management will rush JZim. Why would they? No one expects the team to compete for a playoff spot. At most, fans and management want a .500 ballclub: a respectable team that is worth watching game after game.

Every management comment suggests that they will develop Strasburg very carefully. Same with Wang, who was the Yankees' best before hurting his arm. Why risk anything with Wang? If if that goes for Wang, why expect anything different in the way they handle JZim?

Potomac Cannons is on point tonight.  I think if Desmond puts together a solid season, he's the guy joining Zimmerman for years to come on that left side.

It's still too early to worry about Espinosa.  This is a huge year for him, Marrero, Burgess and the other "Last of the Bowdenians".

IMO, if Desmond takes advantage of the opportunity, Espinosa will battle Kobernus (who is just beginning his professional career) for our 2nd baseman of the future (for the time being).

And back to the topic at hand ... I think Rizzo and the medical staff will make the right decision on his progress.  If he shows he's healthy, they will let him pitch.
