Why? It's not his hometown and he's been producing there, so they've gotten their money's worth
It seems to me that Texas has done an awful lot to help him work through his problems. Offered him way more support than they were required, stuck by him when he screwed up and done an awful lot in helping him resurrect what was a pretty moribund career. I'm not saying he needs to sign a 5/10 deal, but I would have expected him to have a little more consideration than that.
