We're not paying Anthony Rendon $35m a year for 0 HRs and a .655 OPS

Somehow we're not the worst team in the league by wRC+. Colorado, Detroit, and (especially) Kansas City are all worse.

Middle of the MLB pack in ERA.

Bullpen is #1 in average fastball velocity.

if this team had a middle of the order bat, we might be around .500

And Matt Adams hit his 5th the other night.

Just send Downs back and bring up Adams. Vargas will be back soon.

4 teams have worse records and we’re 1.5 back of Philly

Stephen Strasburg costs the same and he has a 0.00 ERA.  What a deal...

Patrick Corbin costs less and never misses a start! Talk about deals.

Dominic Smith was never much of a hitter for the Mets. He was always "the first baseman of the future". Best season, and the only season when he was a regular, was 2021.

Bring back Matt Adams. Use Adams and Joey M as 1B / DH.

Sixth worst record now at 7-14. Giants and Tigers at 7-13.

This may be a wake up series. Mets are a serious opponent, we are playing them on the road, and we have our better 3 starters lined up. Already last night, we have had a couple of our better pitchers put together legitimately dominant performances (Gray, Thompson). Run production will be awful this year, but a little reversion upward may be due. It's starting with Meneses. Add in some progress for younger players like Ruiz and Garcia, the Nats might get to the point where they can get the 4 runs a game that could win with quality pitching. If we take one of the next two with the Mets and 2 of 3 against Pittsburgh (a hot team), I think you'll start to see some "why aren't they as bad as we thought they'd be?" articles.

I'm trying not to be too excited, but I'm looking forward to games right now.  Other than the two turds with the O's, it's been a fun 3 weeks of tight games.

This team is at least competing. We've seen teams in the recent past mailing it in.

Everyone had their bad game last night, rather than blowing multiple games by stinking in winnable games

I see yesterday debacle as the start of a downward spiral with no recovery this season. We will start to see non-injury roster moves and DFA’s starting with Kuhl. It will resemble the merry go round of last season by bringing up starting pitchers who are clearly not ready for prime time.

Yesterday will adjust our expectations so we can again get joy out of good performances rather than just bottom line wins. Folks were starting to talk about deadline trades to get to the wild card games.  If Ruiz starts crushing balls, that's a good sign.

Ok, so much sunshine here I need spf 50.

10-17 for April. Some bright spots with the top three starters and the bullpen.  The offense is just lacking power. 60 win pace. Seems about right.
