Shawn Hill was scheduled to pitch against the Mets on Wednesday night at Shea Stadium,
but left-hander Mike Bacsik will get the start instead. The last time Bacsik started against
the Mets was July 27. Bacsik was solid and helped the Nationals defeat the Mets, 6-2, at
Shea Stadium. Bacsik lasted seven innings and gave up two runs on eight hits. Bacsik was
efficient, throwing just 83 pitches while 55 of them went for strikes.
Willie Randolph tabbed Philip Humber for his first career start on Monday. In four big
league appearances, Humber has allowed one run on three hits in five innings. The
right-hander was 11-9 with a 4.27 ERA for Triple-A New Orleans, but allowed just
three hits and one earned run over his last 13 1/3 innings.
