Hicks is starting for Vermont tonight. He gave up 1 hit, 2 runs (1 earned) in the first inning while striking out 1. 2 errors by the Vermont defense hurt him.

Potomac-Wilmington (2nd inning):  Dee Brown leads off with a fly ball to left fielder Cody Strait.  Matt Rogelstad, 1-10 in the series so far, strikes out swinging to give Teaford his third strikeout.  Teaford is plowing the P-Nats as he stikes out Stephen King for K #4.  The P-Nats thus far have 4 strikeouts and 2 fly balls.

Detwiler threw 28 pitches in the first inning, only 13 were strikes.  Joe Johnson hits the ball with a 1-0 count, flying out to Dee Brown.  The catcher, Jeff Howell, is walked with four straight balls.  Detwiler is imploding on the mound with three walks already.  Stephen King commits his second error to allow the next runner to get on base; runners-first +second.  Robinson, the center fielder, flies out to Boomer Whiting.  The final out comes in the form of a fly out to Boomer Whiting.  So far:  NO hits, 3 walks by Detwiler, and 2 errors by Stephen King.

Potomac-Wilmington (3rd Inning):  Burgess leads things off for Potomac with ground rule double to right field.  That is Burgess second hit of the series, and his second double.  He now owns the first hit of the game.  Jon Solano lays down a successful sacrifice bunt to move Michael Burgess to third.  Boomer Whiting is next, who replaces Plasencia in the lineup, is one of the heros for the P-Nats in the first two games.  Whiting lines one out to left field, allowing Burgess to beat out the throw to put the P-Nats up by 1.  P-Nats take first blood!  Martinez strikes out, Teaford has now ended each inning with a Potomac strikeout.

Detwiler pitched 17 in the second inning, to give him 45 total so far (28 in the first).  Detwiler strikes out Cody Strait for his second strikeout of the night.  With a full count to Pat Correll, Detwiler induces a pop fly for out #2.  Jeff Bianchi, who walked his first time, has the reverse fate this time as he watches a called strike three sail by.  Detwiler's 3rd strikeout to go with his 3 walks (as many walks as the entire Potomac staff has let up in the 25 innings that have comprised the series so far).

I doubt that Detwiler will make it past 5 innings.  If he can hold the Blue Rocks for another two innings and Potomac can get at least one more run, then I think the relievers could keep the team on track for the sweep.

Shell would most definitely be on the All-Rookie Team if there was one in baseball. What a great season.

Manny is a freaking idiot. If he's planning on tanking the rest of the season I wish he'd just come out and say it.

I like Bernadina but he should not be batting 6th in a ML lineup at this point!!! freakign ridiculous this lineup is.

Nuts. He didn't even come up until the end of June. And for the first several months he was here he was used in a Colome-like clean-up role.

Nice hustle, EB!

2.01 ERA is fantastic no matter what situations you're pitching. And for a rookie?! Stop hating on the dude, SF.

There will be a few of these lineups during September. Always happens w/ the worst teams.

Regardless. 25 is young (extremely young for a reliever), btw. I think I've told you this before. Listen.

And the results are no surprise. Manny is playing to lose with a lineup like that. Doesn't help that Bergmann is on the mound either.

5 runners stranded after 2 innings. SHOCKER! Nottttttttttttttttttttttttt

Potomac-Wilmington (4th inning):  Lyons pops the ball for Potomac out #1.  Lefave knocks a couple deep foul balls before finally flying out to the left fielder.  It seems that Edward Teaford has developed some type of blister on his finger, the Wilmington bullpen is showing activity.  Teaford has dominated us so far, except for the Burgess hit.  Brown stikes out on a controversial call, Brown has some words for the home plate ump as he walks away from Teaford's sixth strikeout.  It would be nice Teaford if unable to continue.

Detwiler starts out the inning with a 2-2 strikeout, using his curveball.  4 Ks for Detwiler, with three being the last trio of batters.  Johnson grounds the ball to Daniel Lyons, who charges and makes the play for out #2.  Detwiler is starting to settle into a rhythm now.  Howell ends the inning by grounding out to Dan Lyons as well.  After the shaky start, Detwiler has found his control and is inducing the groundball instead of letting the batters nail it to the outfield.

That also means at least 5 runners were on through two. I guess that's a shocker, too.
