Nice game for EB. He's a very streaky hitter.

Unless it's a future superstar, this is what you should expect out of a young player.

Did anyone hear what book Carp just said was one of the definitive histories of baseball?  I was only half-listening.

Wow, crazy play. Manny almost steam rolled Redding.

That was pretty cool that he tried to keep Redding from falling.

slightly OT, but this comment from the WP chat made no sense to me:
Quote
Hall of Famer Tonight: Chico,

Looking forward to seeing Greg Maddux take on the Nats? Should be a good draw and fun to watch. Usually when Maddux pitches the games go fast. He used to polish them off in around 2 hours - sometimes under. Enjoy.

Chico Harlan: Yes, Maddux is great to watch. Just great. By the way -- and I'll leave you with this little nugget, because we're running out of time with this chat -- the last pitcher before Maddux to throw a game in DC was... yes, Walter Johnson, who last pitched in the District against the St. Louis Browns on Sept. 27, 1927.

The last pitcher before Maddux to throw a game in DC was Walter Johnson?

Whenever you get a chance and if you can find it, I do appreciate it.  I took a sports history class in college and ever since have been very interested in the history of the game (specifically baseball, college football, and soccer).  I was just curious to hear what book Carp referred to as a "definitive work".

I think he meant pitcher with 350 wins.

I'm sure he meant to say Johnson was the last 350 game winner to pitch in DC

He didn't say the name of the book. Just the author. But I could not find anything by the author. You should go to used book stores. I have several books on the history of baseball that I got at McKay's used bookstore real cheap.
