i don't wanna believe that, but he does tend to get hit a lot harder from the stretch.

what could cause that?

It usually means the pitcher is more comfortable w/ the whole process and the push off he gets from the windup. Balester definitely loses velocity and movement from the stretch.

A lot of pitchers do noticeably worse from the stretch. It is something he will need to work on in terms of how he approaches things. For the most part, he probably loses bite and power.

incidentally, wouldn't it be nice to have game-changing power like that?

from just ONE person on our team?

Like Wily Mo Pena....oh wait, nevermind

His fastball is flatter probably due to the loss of impetus in quickening his motion. I don't get why he didn't throw him another curve ball and forced Dunn to provide all the power. Dunn looked confused on the previous breaking ball.

The HR that inning would not have been that big of a deal had our offense scored 6-7 runs like a normal team would have.

Why the F is Guz striking out so much lately?

Lo Duca is certainly a wizard behind the plate isn't he?

This season, Volquez, judging by the numbers, has lost a bit of bite when he moves into the 75-100 pitch range.  His batting avg against jumps from .223 to .329 and his SLG percentage against moves from .309 to .447, while his SO/BB ratio remains about the same.   Not saying that our batters will capitalize (in fact probably just the opposite), just observing that this jump in his numbers is a bit more than most pitchers I have observed.

EDIT:  Volquez just hit 75 pitches with the last pitch of that inning.

I was waiting for this one to pop up again.   Was I the only one that noticed LoDuca getting calls from the dugout? Dude the pitching coach puts together the game plan. Why is that so difficult to grasp? Balester threw Dunn a meatball.

You brought it up. I was just adding on.

Good time for the ump to start squeezing Collin.

Game over. Balester is getting ripped apart by the bottom of their order. This team sucks.

This is what we deserve for blowing all those early opportunities. We should have had at least 6.

Balester has looked great in the first few innings he has pitched, but he just seems to run out of steam around the 5th.  Hopefully this is something that can be fixed.

The pitching coach calls pitches during the game?

you've never noticed that? Just a little while ago the camera showed LoDuca looking into the dugout for the call. It was a fastball to Phillips when Griffey was on 1st.
