Odalis Perez didnt qualify for the win though, so it cant be a blown save
I guess so. It's the same thing as a blown save though.

Yeah, same thing, just a technicality on the wording/scoring.

It is scored as a blown save, though. I didn't know that until now, but it is.

Kearns went 1/1 with an RBI single, run, and 2 walks tonight with Hagerstown batting in DH spot.

what do you mean?  I thought according to the rules that you can only have a blown save if you relieve a player that would have qualified for a win.  Since Perez only pitched four innings, he didnt qualify and therefore Shell couldnt have a blown save.  It would have been had he come in during the 6th inning.  Please explain where I am getting it wrong.

EDIT: Nevermind I just figured it out.

That's awesome. I really hope he comes back and produces. I know he can. He'll always be streaky, though.

Great inning Joel.  If he can control that slider, he is unhittable.

You're right. I was looking just at the save rules. Wikipedia needs to update that page.

Actually I think I may be wrong.  This is the explanation I found online:

Quote
Any time a reliever comes into a game and blows a lead for another pitcher that would qualify for a win, that pitcher is 'credited' for a blown save.

So, if a pitcher relieves in the fifth and blows the lead, that wouldn't be a blown save because the starting pitcher had not pitched enough innings to qualify for the win.  But if he blows the lead with one out in the sixth, that would be a blown save.

So I guess, if he blew the lead with one out in the 6th, it would be a blown save?  Or not because Perez still doesnt qualify?   I cant figure it out.

good job Willie. Perfect opportunity to seize the lead and hand a lead over to Rivera and Rauch.

That'd make you right, though.

"if a pitcher relieves in the fifth and blows the lead, that wouldn't be a blown save because the starting pitcher had not pitched enough innings to qualify for the win"

Pretty funny that we both ended up on that same page to get the info.

Yeah, you had it right. If Perez had gone 5 innings and still had a 2-0 lead and Shell came in and gave up 2 runs in the 6th it would be a blown save.

No, no. It all depends on when he came into the game, not when he gave up the run. You were right.

Oh alright, I see what it is saying, the relief pitcher would have to COME IN during the 6th.

THERE WE GO CASTO!  Looks like Wily Mo stayed in left field for this half inning.

Pretty funny that we both ended up on that same page to get the info.
