Looks pretty average to me. Below average for a Minor Leaguer expected to pitch in the majors.
He's been better lately though. He has given up 3 earned runs or fewer in 6 straight starts. His 64-23 Strikeout-walk ratio is good.

I think that's a realistic possibility.

I was completely, completely wrong about that guy.

he smiled and said a whole bunch of feel-good bullcrap, took his 10m payday, laid around on his fat ass all winter NOT losing weight like he promised he would and not working on his game(proudly stated that he "didn't touch a bat all winter"), came to ST heavier than he was and ridiculously out of shape, played like crap in ST and was clearly beat out by NJ, pouted about not being the starter and convieniently came up with some phantom injury that was magically healed by a magical massage by some random masseuse the moment NJ got hurt and went on the DL, opening up 1B.

and all the while I defended him vigorously.

f*ck Dmitri Young.

So in essence, we have 10.5 million committed to 1B next year and the players either can't stay healthy or can't play :?

This seems to be true from what I have read on predicting Minor Leaguers in to the majors.  Most experts will agree that WHIP is actually a much better predictor.

I like to look at that first, too. But it's a little different in the minors. When a guy has a 4+ ERA at that level, you start to worry a bit about what that might turn into at the highest level. Runs against is still the most important stat.

meh, if a guy gives up a lot of hits but doesn't give up a lot of runs, odds are he'll give up those runs in teh majors

Willems posts another great start in Hagerstown tonight: 6 IP 3 H 1 R 1 ER 2 BB 1 K 0 HR.

He has lowered his ERA to 3.63. He's only 19 but I have a feeling he could be in Potomac by the end of the season, if not sooner.

Yeah, he's been pitching better, but I don't think he'd be getting a shot on any other team. It's definitely nice to see that he's cut down on the walks, though.

I'm tempted to say our bullpen has been decent tonight but it's likely the halos have shut it down for the night.

Joel was bringing it that inning.  Hit 99 twice.

The Mutts are losing 10-0 at home to the Mariners tonight. The Mariners will be going for the sweep tomorrow night at Shea.

Agreed that it is different in the minors, its hard to even predict success with minor leagues statistics due to the difference between the minor league and major league game (specifically pitchers).  But they definiely can point out certain things about a player's game.

Then there is that other show "Wipeout" (no, not Nats baseball) which is the Americanized version of MXC which completely sucks.
I can't betray watching those atrocities when I can watch MXC on DVD.
What is MXC?

Many years before reality TV became popular, a US show aired a clip from a Japanese reality show called "Sound TV."  The Japanese host, with a big smile on his face, would roll a small CANNON into someone's apartment, in the middle of the night.  He then FIRED it over a guy sleeping in a bed.  I laughed my ass off at the guy's reaction, who also started laughing, when he realized he was on that show.

Bad news for us though. We'll have sole possession of the worst record in baseball very, very soon.

Most hits Balester has given up in 7 starts.

And if he the lead holds he is 5-0 with a 3.26 ERA and a 28 K/7 BB in his last 33.1 IP over his last six starts.

He definitely has a high ceiling.  I think he will be called up towards the end of the season (to Potomac that is), depending on what kind of guys move around there.  I will be interested to see how quickly he can develop, with my gut instinct telling me that his development will be picking up the end of this season and, more specifically, the beginning of next season.

Agreed.

ERA+ would be a great stat to see for Minor League pitchers to better understand their overall performance, IMO. I still haven't found a site that keeps that stat, though. :?
