well, at least we scored some runs... albeit we should have scored many more than we did, OFF TO SEATTLE

At least there's plenty of time to make this a good day still.

The only thing I know that is depressing and expected is Old Yeller. Since the dog didn't die, it's only expected.

Seriously guys, can it get any more frustrating than this? I might as well have been listening to nails scratching a chalk board all afternoon while having the game on radio at work. It must have been worse to watch on TV.  This team is just completely flawed in every aspect of the game.

-Defense. Error in the first proved costly.
-Offense. Sure they scored 5 runs but they should have doubled that total considering all the opportunities they had.
-Starting Pitching. Bergmann pitched himself out of the rotation as far as I'm concerned.
-Relief Pitching. Sure enough Manny does the unthinkable and puts his closer in a non-save situation. That is always the kiss of death. Rauch promptly gave up 2 doubles which led to another run and ruined any chance of a come back we might have in the 9th.

It should not have been scored an error. It was a line drive headed to CF for a single that nicked Bergmann and bounced towards Belliard. He tried to rush his throw to get the out but he threw high. The play would've been close even on a good throw but again off the bat it was a hit all the way.

The nice thing about today's loss is I was at work and didn't see any of it. I almost forgot we played today, and driving home I heard the score. It was strangely comforting to know I wouldn't have to waste my evening watching another loss. It was almost like coming home and finding that the dishes had washed themselves -- the chore was done and I didn't have to do any work.

Good quote from Bergmann from after the game:

Quote
Bergmann's face said it all afterwards. The right-hander is tired of the Nationals' inconsistencies and wishes he could have done something more than his 4 2/3 innings of work on Thursday.

"It's frustrating when we got a good pitching performance out of [John] Lannan [on Tuesday] and we can't score the runs," Bergmann said. "Today, we had a subpar pitching performance and we scored some runs. If we're going to [stink], [we should] just [stink] all at once and just be good all at once. That way we'd be at least .500."
QFT.

Don't sell yourself short Bergmann. Subpar? You sucked.
