Not too happy about dropping Schroder to AAA-Columbus (AGAIN!!!) and not really thrilled with any of the call-ups.  I'd rather see Alex Escobar, Justin Maxwell or even Kory Casto up here over Langerhans.  He plays hard, but can't hit MLB pitching.  I guess at the same time, Kearns/Dukes/Pena can't either.

Either of those two pitchers starters? Or are we stocking up on relievers until Hill's turn again

what the **** does Bowden have against Schroder?

They are trying to save an option year maybe? The only reason they could move him so fast was the DL'ing of Kearns. Also, WTF on Chico? Is this Manning guy a swingman?

Mikehuges your signature is more gut-bustingly hilarious than ever.

Sadly, no matter how bad he is, Langerhans will almost certainly be an improvement :?

I'm secretly hoping he'll do great, though.  Guess we'll see.

DL Shawn Hill if he's not good to go ... bring up Collin Balester or Garret Mock.

I'm okay with optioning Matt Chico, but you already had Chris Schroder up here.

Player      W    L    ERA    WHIP    G    GS    SV    IP     H    R    ER  HR    SO    BB  BK   WP  HBP  AVG  G    AB
C Manning  0  0    1.95    1.19    19    0    6    27.2  20   8    6    1    34    13    0    2    1    .206     7    97
B Sanches  0  0    0.98    0.65    14    0    7    18.1   9   2    2    1    26     3     0    1    1    .145    10    62
Sent down to AAA (Columbus stats):
C Schroder 3  2    3.45    1.66    12    0    3    15.2  19   6    6    1    25     7     0    0    0    .306     5    62

These are two relief pitchers from Columbus, who statistically may be the best on the staff.  One is the closer there.  I'll bet they're trying to trade Colome, and will use him to face one batter only per game, until they do.

Why send down Chris Schroder? Better to have dispensed with Colome!

All the same, I kinda like the move overall. Let's hope Langerhans has learned something during his stay in AAA.

EDIT: Thanks for the stats + explanation, Nats2playoffs.

I think it's Acta. Maybe it's some kind of sick bet where they want to see how many times they can jerk him around. Any bets on Sanches getting O'Connored.

I have no freaking idea why Schroder got sent down again. Yes he got roughed up the other day but so did Colome who much deserves getting canned.  I'm glad we get to see Manning and Sanches but I wish Colome was out of here.

It's sickening how much their dragging Schroder back in forth. It's BS. How can he focus on pitching when he doesn't know where he is going to be from day to day?

NAME         GP    GS    W    L    Sv  Hld    IP    H    ER  HR BB  SO    K/9    P/GS  WHIP    ERA
C. Schroder   4    0    0    0    0    0    5.0    6    3    2    6    3    5.40    0.0    2.40    5.40

Schroder has the 2nd worst Walks and Hits per Inning Pitched (WHIP) on the MLB team, except for Mike O'Connor.  A WHIP of 1.66 in Columbus is a pitcher who should have never been called up in the first place.  He was walking or giving up hits at will against minor league batters.  Good pitchers have a WHIP below 1.4, and you really want it below 1.3.  If Manning and Sanches can put up similar stats here, we WILL WIN a LOT of games!

Ladies and gentlemen, your new Nationals:

Manning will make his major league debut; Sanches has appeared in 30 games over two seasons for the Phillies.

5 innings is not a fare sample size at all. At least give Schroder a fair chance.  If after a couple more weeks he was still struggling them give him the boot.  You seriously would rather have Jesus Colome over Schroder?

Its worth seeing if Langerhans figured something out. This is the first time he has had a good OBP even in the minors. Then throw in great D which I think has more impact than most give it credit for.

Man, I would love to be a fly on the wall during the meetings to decide these movies.  Like sportsfan said, I don't think Schroder has been given a fair chance yet and Colome clearly needs to go.  There must be more to this such as setting up a trade.

Sanches scares me a little. I'm afraid he might be Winston Abreu/Chris Booker Part 2. Every time has been called up to the Majors he has choked. He had an ERA of 5.91 (21.1 IP) in 2006 and an ERA of 5.52 (14.2 IP) in 2007, both with the Phillies.

Manning has never pitched in the big leagues. He was drafted by the Yankees in the 9th round of the 2001 draft. He was traded along with Brandon Claussen to the reds for Aaron Boone in 2003 (All 3 are Nats or ex-Nats).  The Reds traded Manning back to the Yankees in '04. He has been bouncing between the Yankees' AA and AAA teams for the last 3-4 years before finally becoming a free-agent and signing with the Nats in the off-season.

Nice moves to bolster the bullpen.  Sanches and Manning were both spectacular out of the Clipper bullpen.  As for Langerhans, amy be unpopular with some, but he deserves to be back, he has had a good season thus far in Columbus.

I have to think they're setting up a trade - and possibly a big one. If Sanches can deliver the goods in the majors with anything like the skill he's shown in the minors (rather than the lack of skill he showed in Philly), Chad and Jon could become bargaining chips.

I think there's something wrong (sick/injured??) with Shroder -- he hasn't looked like the same pitcher lately at all .. I wonder if he was sent down to work on something (mechanical maybe??) ...

Looking forward to seeing the other two pitchers - Maybe Langerhans is swinging the bat better - we'll see - Langerhans is also an excellent fielder which we could certainly use with Kearns out -- would have loved to see JMax up ... I'm sure we'll see him for September regardless ...

Who is our 5th starter??

Shawn Hill is *supposed* to make his next start.  I'm skeptical but we'll see.

Well, that may be the start that finally gets to him and forces him onto the DL. I hope not.
