Still too early. He's had some good AB's. I'm not too worried about him..yet.

WTF is Lenny Harris doing on the WNFF? Shouldn't you be at the game tutoring these guys?!

He just had an RBI single and his average probably jumped up like 30-40 points this game. I know you hate the guy, but he is still one of the better hitters on this team.

That's funny, but I do remember you calling him worthless even when he hit .320 last season, too. I'd rather have a .300-hitting fat guy than an in-shape .200 guy. That's just me, though. I know you're all about the looks.

Actually, it had nothing to do with his looks. It had to do with something called "the bigger picture." I know that something like that might expand beyond the comprehension of one such as yourself and the "Gimme Now Crowd", but looks never played into it contrary to popular belief.

I don't get why Boone doesn't start over Young. This move screams Bowden all the way. Dmitri is a good hitter but Boone is on fire right now.

2 years at $5M per is not that much at all for a .300 hitter. There are also trades that could be made. Not a bad signing, IMO, if he produces the stats OR the prospects. Believe it or not, he makes this team better.

Did you watch tonight's game? Where is this .300 hitter you speak of? Oh you must of meant Guzman, Flores, or Boone....

He hit .333 tonight w/ an RBI and a walk. What's wrong w/ that?

Would you advocate spending $5 mil/year on Daryl Ward?  Because that's essentially what Dmitri Young should be right now.  Unfortunately, this team's FO thinks he can be an everyday 1B.

I'd rather have Boone start every day at 1B.  Young can still hit somewhat but he's better off starting once or twice a week and coming off the bench as a PHer. That's not going to happen though because we are paying Young too much money to be a bench guy.

I don't see that as a very good comparison. Ward gets barely over 100 AB's a year. Young hit .320 in 400+ AB's last season.

What the hell? YOU were the one who mentioned one game. I just pointed out that you were wrong.

I love how you took a guy who has been injured all season, comes back for a few games, is hitting .250, his mentorship and leadership obviously has done jack crap, and turn him into a .333 hitter with one game stats. Might as well make AZ happy and overblow Dukes the same way.

Sigh...it's aggravation from tonight's game boiling over. I'm going to cool it.

I figured it was. You were starting to do that thing where you keep repeating the same stuff over and over to try and make your argument seem stronger. That stuff doesn't faze me.

I don't like Dmitri THAT much, but I do think he helps our terrible offense. I never really cared about the mentor crap.

But Ward's of the same mold - a bulky DH-type pinch hitter who can't play good defense at any position.

True, but 1B is the least worried about position on the field. He's no gold glover, but he does get the job done over there as much as any average first basemen. If he couldn't bend down and touch the ground, we'd have a real problem.

I do like Boone, though. I'd like to see him out there in LF while NJ is still out. I know he's never played there before, but he's a vet and a good fielder, so it shouldn't be too tough for him. He seems to judge the ball well off the bat.

We need the bats more than solid fielders right now. Having Dmitri and Boone in the lineup would help.

Dmitri's been solid at first, excepting that throw from the outfield that he let get by him.  He's made a a couple of really nice plays on bad throws by Zimmerman

Exactly. A typical at bat for Young lasts about 8 pitches.  A few games ago he fouled off about 13 pitches, then I think he struck out, but he had the pitcher so frustrated that a rally began with the next hitter.

In a division with Carlos Delgado and Ryan Howard, Dmitri is far from the worst fielder.

He struggled so much at first at the beginning of last year -- I was worried about him at first this year coming off the injury  - but he has really improved over there - some of the plays he's made, not just yesterday have been impressive -  he's no NJ of course - but he's certainly not a liability ...

bump. Young looks like crap. Too bad Manny benched Boone while he was hot. Now he's certainly cooled off some.  I still wouldn't mind Boone getting more starts though.
