Tyler Clippard with a very rough start in a loss tonight: 6 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 3 BB, 4 K.

Hopefully he bounces back to form next time.

I like Jones a lot and am glad to see he recouping well. But how about Adrian Alaniz's line from last night against Erie (he got the no decision though):

6.0 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 SO

So far in 2 games he still has yet to get the win, but who cares because he is continuing what he started in Potomac (and earlier than that if you want to really get into it). He has 1.50 ERA at Harrisburg and 2.44 ERA in 14 games this year. His WHIP is 0.83, identical to what it was at VERMONT last year. I expect that he will finish the year at Harrisburg, maybe they will send him up to Columbus and if he keeps pitching like this he will get a shot next year in Washington.

I saw his stats last night too. It just wasn't as impressive as the other two's nights. Not trying to take anything away from him though, he continues to impress at every level I'd love to see him make it to 7 innings his next start. Keep it up Alaniz!!

When did Martis get promoted to AAA?

He's making his Columbus debut today.

Make it four Harrisburg Senators pitchers who have been promoted to Triple-A Columbus this week. RH starter Shairon Martis and LH reliever Tim Bittner were transferred to Columbus on Saturday; RHP Craig Stammen was added from Advanced-A Potomac and will start Sunday’s game against Erie.

Martis, 21, was a mainstay in the Harrisburg rotation since the start of the season. He went 4-4 with a 3.98 ERA in 14 starts for the Senators. Martis was acquired in 2006 in a trade with the Giants.

because he is in AA as opposed to AAA.

AAA has older pitchers, but not necessarily better. But maybe being that close to the majors did get to his head a bit. It's just good to see the guy get back on track.

Generally speaking the AAA pitchers have better command not better stuff.

Yep, and he threw a no-hitter in the WBC in 2006. I think he's pretty underrated.

Nothing about Smoker's last start?

I hope this is a sign that he's starting to get the hang of things. That is a really dominant K/BB total.

I think it might have been mentioned in another thread (although it might have been a gameday thread), but I definitely see his potential, he is still pretty raw though. I am pretty sure no one has made mention of Jack McGeary's first start for GCL-Nats [3.1 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 2 BB, 1 SO]. McGeary still has a long way to go, it could be awhile before we even see him at Hagerstown.

You gotta expect that from McGeary though, who knows if he's been throwing while he was in school.

Oh absolutely, I am not surprised at all, but it is kind of rough to see a guy with such high expectations get pumped by the lowest class of minor leaguers. His development will probably take twice as long as our other young pitchers. I have to wonder, though, if sitting out an extra portion of the year will keep his arm any fresher than the other pitchers or if it will be more of a detriment than anything.
