Patterson gets nod in Game 2 vs. Phils

The Nationals look to win their second straight game as they take on the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park on Saturday afternoon.
Nationals right-hander John Patterson will face the Phillies for the second time this season. The last time he faced them, on April 26 in Washington, he pitched 6 2/3 innings and gave up just one run on six hits. He struck out six and walked four. In total, Patterson threw 113 pitches, 67 of them for strikes. The Nationals won the game, 3-1.
In his last start, Patterson was solid for six-plus innings, giving up two runs on four hits against the Mets. He struck out seven, walked two and threw 116 pitches, 74 for strikes. He didn't figure in the decision as the Nationals lost to the Mets, 5-2.
On Friday night, the Nationals nearly let two five-run leads slip away, but edged the Phillies, 8-7, in front of 44,688.
