Do I need to see a doctor???
« on: March 21, 2008, 01:27:14 pm »
My left ankle has been bothering me tha last few days. Its more tha area between eight below tha ankle(bone) .

Every mornign when i wake up or if i get up from jsut layin down, its in pain. not serious pain, but its bothersome to tha point where i dont want to agitate it.

I dont know why its like that. I havent hoop this week, and havent taken any bad falls or anything.

So i'm thinkin maybe i should wait it out for a few days and see if it goes away??

I got this ben-gay type cream i've been rubbing on it for tha past 2-3 days..my friend whose on tha basketball team said it just sounds like a bruised ankle and that sometimes those go away after a week or so..

Do you have an advice nurse to call? At lot of insurance plans do, has been a big help to me in the past. They'll often tell you to go, just ot be safe.

I wouldnt know . My grandma handles all tha insurance/medical bill stuff......

besides i'm away from home at school. if i was at home, i wouldve went to tha hospital or clinic to be safe, but since i'm at school , i'm wondering do i really need to do this. i'm still busy workin on my midterm project....

i'm leaning towards waiting it out and seein if it feels better after a few days

Can you walk without too much discomfort? If so you may be able to wait it out until you get back home to get it checked out. Also, it may not even be an issue by then.

If it's a large school (one with a health center) - then I bet they have an advice nurse for free. I have had really good success with them - went to the ER once for no reason, but otherwise they have been spot on

No option there then :) I went to a small school too - the doctors there had 2 diagnoses: Mono, or Pregnant. Even for men.

Yeah, for mine it was a sinus infection.   He was a tetracycline pusher to be sure!

Is it swolen or anything?  What happens when you elevate it on a soft pillow.  I was going to suggest an ankle brace but if pressure hurts it, that may not be a good idea.

Have you tried rubbing dirt on it? But seriously, make an appointment with your doctor. What's the worse that can happen?

Try this site.   It may have an article or something that tells you when you have to go to the doctor.

A good place to start:

This might be a similar situation.  Compare the symptoms:

A young redhead goes into the doctor's office and says that her body hurts wherever she touches it.

"Impossible," says the doctor. "Show me."

She takes her finger and pushes her elbow and screams in agony. She pushes her knee and screams, pushes her ankle and screams and so on it goes.

The doctor says, "You're not really a redhead, are you?"

She says, "No, I'm really a blonde."

"I thought so," he says.
"Your finger is broken."

it dont look swolloen......and i havent really messed with . i just know it hurts whenever i wake up, or if i get up from layin down sideways or if i put any pressure on it, like i was doin squats, and i tested it on just that one leg with tha bad ankle and it really hurted then...also when if i'm sittin in tha car a long time, and its time to get out. it also hurts. i guess from tha stiffness.

i dunno. i told my fam to set up an appointment for next week while i'm home on spring break.....

Good choice!  If it get unbearable before you go home, try one of those urgent care centers.  OR do you have a friend who's on one of the school athletic teams?  If so, ask if you can have their trainer take a quick look at it.  Maybe also try the heat/ice combination thing.  (heat for 10 min. ice for 10 or however long)

If it's bothering you more, not less, you should see the doctor.  I always figure if it hurts *more* the more I move it, it's time to see a doc (conversely, if warming up makes it the pain lessen or go away, it's not as big an issue).

COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS THAT YOU ONLY HAVE TO DEAL WITH ONE. FRIDAY A WEEK AGO I WAS HAVING CHEST PAINS AND HAD TO GO BY AMBULANCE TO THE HOSP. GOT CATHERIZED AND SENT HOME THAT EVE. PROGRESS. IT USED TO BE YOU HAD TO STAY AT LEAST OVERNIGHT.
