Is it safe to say that T2: Judgement Day is tha best sequel to a movie???

Empire Strikes Back was rejected by a lot of people but I thought it was great. Attack of the Clones was clearly better than Phantom Menace. Although Godfather II was a great movie you can't say it was better than the original. Saw II was decent

Saw IV goes a bit downhill - it's without the original writer or director, and I had some trouble making sense of it all. The other 3 are really good, with the 1st as a classic.

Note that the largest grossing sequel is Toy Story 2. From Russia With Love probably made James Bond more of an icon than its predecessor, Dr. No.  The villain, Robert Shaw, would later help launch the career of Steven Spielberg, with his appetizing performance as the sea captain in Jaws.

Would James Bond movies "count".  We need to define what is a sequel as opposed to the same character in a series of movies.

Star Wars is a Sequel - same band of characters fighting the evil empire.
Spiderman is a sequel - Spiderman fighting bad guyes and has continuing story of him and Mary Jane.  Not to mention his friend who keeps fighting him in all 3 movies because he believes Spiderman killed his father.

James Bond has a lot of SEPARATE adventures where the only character that continues is himself.  The plot of the next one has no relationship to the previous one. 

You can see any James Bond movie as an entity of itself.  Star Wars, Spiderman, even Indiana Jones, there are references to what came before and it is advisable that you see the previous one to have deeper understanding of the sequel.

However, they all do have recurring characters- M, Moneypenny, Q. So I think just because each adventure in each film is different, they qualify as sequels as much as Batman, Thin Man, etc.

In some they also have a recurring adversary, Ernst Stavro Blofeld, and they make references to other bad guys in other movies. Don't forget Jaws. Also, Felix Lighter who is played by different actors.   In one movie he's even played by a black dude.

Wait. I agree with you. Bond movies, although connected in some way, should not be included in the sequel discussion. I was just furthering on saltydad's comments about Bond characters because I'm a huge fan of Bond movies.
