Pimp Jokes and "I must attack AZ" commentary aside...
Belliard is a very solid 2nd Baseman, and we could be much worse off than having him as a starter.
he hits for a decent average, gets on base at a decent clip, plays solid defense, has 10-15 HR power. anyone who thinks his offensive stats from last year are a "fluke" hasn't followed his career, or even looked at a stats page.
he's not a top or middle of the order guy, he's more of a 7th hitter. he isn't a superstar, but he isn't a liability at the plate, and he won't hurt you in the field, for the most part. he's a solid role-player type piece for a team to have.
I don't see why so many people seem to have a problem with him, other than the fact that AZ likes him, so that makes it cool to not like Belliard.
like I said, we could do much worse for starting 2nd Basemen.
