Gameday Thread: Nationals vs Giants, Game 2 (L)
« Topic Start: September 21, 2005, 06:44:02 PM »
Brad Hennessey, RHP (4-8, 5.25)

John Patterson, RHP (9-5, 2.65)

Scouting Report:
Hennessey is on a nine-game winless streak -- he hasn't won since July 28 and has lost five straight decisions. He lasted only 2 2/3 innings vs. the Dodgers last Thursday, tagged for three runs in the Giants' 7-1 defeat. He's had some great outings, but the rookie needs to learn to compensate when his stuff is off-kilter.

Patterson will face the Giants for the seventh time in his career. He is 1-1 with a 7.23 ERA against them. In his last start, Patterson pitched his second complete game and helped the Nationals defeat the Padres, 5-1, at PETCO Park.

Code: [Select]

Question: If we win all the remaining series including that against the Giants, will we likely be in the playoffs?

Assuming our main competition is Houston, and our current E-number is 7, which means if we win 2 out of 3 in each of the remaining series (including tonight and tomorrow against the Giants) then Houston only needs 4 wins to beat us.  That means they only need to avoid losing the series against the Bucs and being swept in each of their remaining series against the Cubs and Cards.

I think either of these scenarios highly unlikely :(

Yeah, okay, but it's not over. I could see us getting a few sweeps! ;-)

Yeah sure it's possible, but I prefer to do as Sens suggests and just assume it won't happen and enjoy the rest of the season for what it is: 11 games of Nationals baseball :)

Hey bud look at it in football terms.  It's 28-0, 4th quarter at the two minute warning and we're the "0".  Nuff said.

Hennessy gets a double...man, I don't know if I'm going to enjoy going to the game tommorow or not.  This is starting to get depressing.
