VERY ugly start. Down 3-0 quickly. Plenty of time to make it up, though.

Not to pin this all on Olie, but after watching Huet (and other goalies) I have noticed differences perhaps flaws in Kolzigs game. Olie seems to lose pucks around the crease (like the 2nd and 4th goals). Huet has this ability to slither around on his knees and cover the upper part of the net as well. Olie just sticks his legs out as far as he can (4th goal). Can you recall Olie ever making one of those flashy glove saves? I dont bring this up just because they look cool, but sometimes they are all you can do. I dont have any mental pictures of Olie making one of these saves ever. He flashes at them but never gets them (3rd goal). Not saying Huet could have had that third goal, but you never know. I hate when Olie looks helpless and lost. And I dont ever see Johnson or Huet look lost. Olie has other strengths, like size, but these are just general impressions I have of Olie that have all been illustrated in this period

You put that perfectly. I was just about to come on here and say that Kolzig isn't totally to blame, but I have a feeling it might only be 2-0 (maybe even less) if Huet was in there. Huet has the better instincts for the shots that got by Kolzig. Plus, he's quicker to adjust.

I don't know how some of you guys like these types of losses more than close ones. These types of blowouts make me sick. The close ones just age you a bit faster, but the rush is awesome up until the final buzzer.

I've already said their chances were of making the playoffs were gone and this game puts the final cap on it. No excuse to get blown out like this against a mediocre team like Chicago. Buffalo and the Hurricanes won again of course so this puts the playoffs all but out of reach.

I wouldn't go as far as saying that we have no chance. We've done enough in the last week or so to allow ourselves to lose a game or two out of the last 8.

This game sure does suck, though. Huet should start all but maybe one of the last 8 games, IMO.

8 wins in a row to end the season is what it will take. If they do that they are in, anything less they'll be home watching on TV. The other teams that we are competing for playoff spots simply do not lose.

My bad, there'll be 7 games left after this one. I don't think we'll have a problem passing the Flyers. Buffalo has to play Montreal and Ottawa twice each, so it won't be too hard to pass them again either. We definitely have the easiest schedule out of the few teams vying for the 8th spot.

Well, 7 in a row is what it will take. It really doesn't matter who those teams play. As you can see whoever the Caps need to lose on any given night over the last 2-3 weeks has won. Not one game EVER goes their way. I'm not exaggerating either. They'll have to do it all on their own.

Not anymore. It's over now. You missed one hell of a save by Khabibulin. I don't care who you root for, that was something special.

Terrible game tonight, but these things happen. They just need to bounce back on Friday w/ Huet in goal.

Friday against ATL is basically must win (i hate to use that term because if they lose then i shouldnt watch anymore right?). we said the Caps needed to go 9-3 or 10-2 to make it when they were 12 games back. Now they just need 5-2 or 6-1.

2 against ATL
2 againslt CAR
2 against TB
1 against FL

5+ wins is not impossible with those games remaining. We owe the SE a couple beat downs to make things right in this world

Not to make excuses, but the Caps were handicapped from the start last night. Lots of teams nag about having to sit on the bench for 25 minutes for jersey retiring ceremonies and the caps had to do it on the second half of back to back away games. THey just gotta get their crap together for friday

ECAC should get two teams in now that Clarkson is out of the conference tourney.

Have fun. Curse a lot. Wonder if the game is on TV. It might make it onto one of the RSN's I have through DirectTV sportspack. Some of the big hockey schools are cursing Clarkson right now for not winning the ECAC and effecively taking an at large bid away from one of them. How well has that tournament been attended recently. I was there in 2003 (one of the first years in Albany) and they basically just filled the lower bowl.

And Cornell/Stanford tonight. I wonder what kind of representation they'll have in Anaheim. Must be some alum's out there...

Edit: It is going to be on NHL network. I get every f-ing sports channel under the sun via SportsPack except NHLNetwork. I get NFL Network, the goddam Big Ten Network. Why not NHL? When I called them, they said I needed to upgrade my basic package. So somebody with the 6 dollar a month more basic package sans SportsPack will get it? Yet the sports fan who buys the package with like 20-30 RSN's doesnt. WHY IS IT NOT PART OF SPORTSPACK? Maybe I'll just upgrade my package for a month. It does give me 30 other channels as well, though I cant imagine what I dont have

Olie gives up a lot of rebounds...he always has to some extent, but it seems much worse this season.

Looks like the Canes/Cats game is going into OT. It didn't matter who won, the Caps just needed it to end in regulation so of course it doesn't.

The offense just looks terrible right now. That second goal was totally Ovechkin's fault. We need to turn this thing around.

Just accept it. The season is over. The team has gone down the toilet. Atlanta has 2 wins in their last 16 games and they are dominating this game against the Caps. Caps are showing no sense of urgency and have accepted that they are done.
