Nationals @ Phillies, Game 1
« Topic Start: July 24, 2007, 06:08:19 PM »

Game Time: 7:05 ET

Kyle Kendrick
4-1, 4.40 ERA

Jason Bergmann
2-5, 4.46 ERA

(SS) Jimmy Rollins
(RF) Shane Victorino
(2B) Chase Utley
(1B) Ryan Howard
(CF) Aaron Rowand
(LF) Pat Burrell
(3B) Greg Dobbs
(SC) Carlos Ruiz
(SP) Kyle Kendrick

Felipe Lopez (SS)
Ronnie Belliard (2B)
Ryan Zimmerman (3B)
Dmitri Young (1B)
Ryan Church (LF)
Austin Kearns (RF)
Brian Schneider (SC)
Ryan Langerhans (CF)
Jason Bergmann (SP)
________________________________________________

Bergmann wasn't as sharp as he was early in the season last Friday, but is still one of the most dependable pitchers on the Nats' staff. He said after the game that he was feeling better about using his curveball, and his slider is coming around. His 2-5 record reflects a lack of run support, but he hasn't had that problem recently, getting a combined 18 runs from the offense in the last two games.

The odds were against Kendrick breezing through his rookie season undefeated, and he saw on Wednesday against the Dodgers how the other half lived, giving up two key home runs on the way to his first loss. He got out of a first-inning jam with only a run allowed, but surrended a three-run shot in the fourth and a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth. The Phillies dropped to 5-2 in Kendrick starts. He has never faced the Nationals.

Yeah, he throws A LOT of strikes. As long as we can get some contact, we've got a great chance of taking this one.

Belliard coming off his fresh extension will thank us by blasting a dinger tonight.

You heard it here first.

I definitely wouldn't be surprised if that did happen.  You heard it here second

By the way, I couldn't find a regulation picture of Kendrick, so I took a photo off Google and sized it.

5,000th post!

The Phillies team batting is near the top of MLB in most categories.
So Bergmann can't be throwing beach balls

The Nationals' team pitching needs to continue dominating.
We are 2-3 against both the Phillies and the Mets, so we need to win these two series.
Getting the Nationals to the playoffs starts by beating the NL-East teams.  Beginning tonight!

Regarding those 5000 posts...
Going for high score?

Good start Jason! I was a little worried with Rollins at bat when he wasn't getting the corners - but he did good :)
