This team's bullpen isn't set up for a winning streak. With 2 righty hi-lev guys, Lord and Tolman for middle relief, and Dion a useful lefty, that's 5 guys. They were all burned when the Nats won 3 in a row, other than Dion. So they are left with Kranick to face righties and Cosgrove on the 4th day

Ribalta and Beeter are those guys. They've pitched a lot.

Also, we really dont have anyone that is a true setup and closer

Don't have to be a "true setup [man] or closer." Just need to be a mediocre major leaguer.

And Davey never made the knuckle-headed decisions that Butera has made. As if Butera only makes decisions by consulting "lefty/righty", but ignoring the game. Butera is an amateur. Is Toboni much better?

Let's not let Toboni off the hook.

I told you yesterday that Kranick sucked

This fanbase spent years and years defending Martinez. They’ll do the same with Butera. The guys in over his head.

Give him better players he'll look like a genius, like Martinez did.

Who thinks Kranick and Cosgrove are MLB pitchers? Who thinks Butera is a major league manager? And, while Toboni has spent money on player development, did Toboni hand Nats the worst bullpen in baseball? Did Toboni stick with idiots?

When you’re bringing in guys like Kranick and Cosgrove because of lefty righty matchups you’re simply ignoring the fact that they can’t get anyone out regardless. Who cares about the matchup if the pitcher sucks? I get he’s been up against it this year but we made all those trades so he’d have options. He had Dion and Perales. Anything is better than just willfully forfeiting. It’s like the Phillies series when he brought in the one dummy to close who had a 22 ERA and he immediately blew the game. I get it. The staff sucks but he’s actively making it worse with his decision making.

He’s definitely a moron but you’re correct. He needs better players. But when ownership is not willing to spend you’re stuck with depending on turds

Toboni. The Lerners picked Toboni to divert attention from themselves.

Oh, did Eddy Yean sneeze on the clubhouse spread or bang one of the Lerner granddaughters? Who did he annoy that he's not up here?

To be clear, I am not defending Butera or Toboni. Butera had Dion and Perales, either would have been better choices that I flagged before or at the start of the inning. But Toboni should have had additional relievers up when we knew several weren't available today. The team wasn't set up to continue its winning streak. Now Beeter is unavailable for tomorrow

You guys understand that Butera has very little say in bullpen use? That the front office is the one that dictates when certain relievers will be used and under what circumstances?

The Nats are still one of the few teams that practice being bad or hopeless, as they execute brain farts and errors naturally.

apparently, Dion is scheduled to be the starter or bulk guy Monday according to MLB.com.  I assume Perales might be paired with him. If that's the case, then why is Waldron on this team?

If Butera gets a ring, I’ll defend him for a while too. I hated Martinez too, until I didn’t.

Why have Butera, then? You seem to be arguing that Toboni and Butera are both to blame for the many bullpen losses?

Because someone has to explain it to the players.

Toboni is 100% to blame for this. Not only has Butera never done this before, but Ribalta and Dion are the only relievers on the team who are worth a crap. That's on Toboni. In top of that, Toboni is the one who didnt sign anyone decent to the rotation. Hes the one that chose to trade the only other starter who could get into the 5th and 6th innings, and who refuses to find another starting pitcher for the rotation, but instead keeps rolling out relievers.

Butera has to play the cards hes dealt. Maybe there was a better option, but overall, hes been given dog eared crap cards this season.

Davey was better. Butera cannot manage in the majors. Davey had a good team in 2018, 2019, and then early 2021. Butera belongs down in A+, learning to manage.

And why have Kranick and Cosgrove in the majors? No other pitchers in the organization? If so, then Toboni needs to fire himself.

Butera has done better with nothing than dimwit dave did with a truly great team.  I'll say it again...I had as much or more to do with the Nats wining the World Series than dimwit dave did...

Agree with this, but Butera has made irrational decisions with the garbage he has been given. The Lh-Rh decisions are silly. Then Vivas at 3B over House? And House as PH for Abimelec? Playing Tena? House-Nunez-CJ seem the best infield, and Vivas is a decent utility guy. Why start Vivas?

Kranick for the 9th? And then Cosgrove?
