Nationals @ Mets, Game 3

On the other tuner, I’m watching the “Homer at the Bat” Simpsons episode.  To this day one of the top 5 episodes of the series.

Rachel, Red-Headed Daughter, and I went to the game. I was saying "Third time's a charm", and when Ortiz homered it was 2-0. O also said, "It takes less than as minute for Irvin to blow up". And it did. Dismal by the Nats, without any notable disasters. I don't remember an error. Just a big nothing. Had only four hits last I looked, while the Mets had ten.

A good sized crowd in a benign mood. Our 3B side of the stands gave House a big hand when he was able to stand and walk, and stay in the game. Of course Irvin then walked the batter. Few Nats fans, which is unusual.

CJ looked down, unhappy, and, yes, demoralized. Same for the rest of the team. Butera manages as if this is early Spring Training, playinh junkeroo players like Tena and Vivas, Irvin, and the entire bullpen. Might be on Toboni's orders under the Lerner family's rules. The Met fans are much happier that the game we saw back in the spring. Their team is heading down and down, but their bullpen looks pretty good, and fans seem hopeful.

While Nat fans can only hope that somebody buys the team and fire the Toboni Administration.

They miss Wood. I'd feel much better if the outfield was Wood-Young and some combo of Crews / Lile or Crews /Tena were available.

It would be nice to think that a pro ballplayer would lock in and not let the position discussions be a distraction. But these are human beings, and CJ is a 25 year old all star SS having a career year. Hard to imagine it isn't weighing on him for a lot of reasons that are perfectly reasonable. And it doesn't take much to be thrown off mentally. It would be one thing if it was the off-season, they were bringing in an obvious replacement in the IF, and there was a discussion of a position switch. But the way this was handled is simply awful. When they made Trea played center to get his bat in the lineup, it was one thing. Same with Espinosa playing 2B. ARod moved to 3B so Jeter could stay at short. But this is different. They aren't bringing in or bringing up a phenom. And the ownership and FO are still question marks. Having this done mid season with no obvious strategy other than maybe playing CJ at 2B if/when Nunez is in the lineup raises so many issues, that it seems like dysfunction.
