He could only field at 1B and had to be hidden against LHP. We brought back some immediate bullpen help and a couple flyers.

This feels like a Mead trade of help in the short and long term. Similar to Mead, betting the bounce isn’t permanent and trading from a deeper position to help a thin one. Whether we “win” the trades at both corner spots will largely rely on how we handle the spots for the rest of the season.

Credit to Toboni picking up his option last winter. I thought that was a horrible decision. I was wrong.

I think if someone told you before the season that Luis Garcia would be traded for 4 players, no one would believe you... That in itself is a credit to the team for finding a way to unlock potential that hadn't been tapped to this point.

In summation, the Yankees got more than a year of a player whose bat should play well in Yankee Stadium and lengthen their lineup a bit, while the Nationals received some interesting pitchers who may be able to help quickly. Eh, I disagree about betting the bounce isn't permanent. The Red Sox don't trade Connelly if they don't think the bounce is permanent. And Garcia's bounce should not only be permanent, but I expect him to outperform what he did in DC.

To clarify, I think the *Nationals* are betting bounces are not permanent for Mead and Garcia, while the Red Sox and Yankees are hoping there is something sustainable.
