Yeah, someone correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like he was protecting the others in the lineup, I think the guys in the lineup are seeing less fastballs with him gone

That month they had with Tony Plush, Nick in the 2 hole, and Zim, Dunn and Wilingham as the 3-4-5 was a lot of fun.

I think his ability to hit both lefties and righties let him break up the LHHs string at the top of the order, making for tougher match ups

Mead had plenty of years of control left and even if they wanted House to be brought up, they still could have rotated Mead through 1st, 2nd, and 3rd base and DH to get regular at bats.
