Not entirely his fault but enough of it was

The "can't throw strikes" part was, and the "groove a fastball over the center of the plate to a veteran slugger" part was.

Sending down Alvarez to send a message while bringing up Varland to take his place is some serious General managing…maybe we can send down James Wood and bring up Weimer to really get the point across

to be fair, Varland pitched well at Rochester.

he was going down for Irvin or Williams. Varland is / was just up between that slot in the rotation coming up again

to be fair, Varland pitched well at Rochester.

He's shaky mentally, like Cornelio and some others.  They get rattled and lose confidence, so underperform.
