Don’t let Alvarez pitch the eight. I know he can go longer and has only thrown 11 pitches but the Nats history of pushing relievers one additional inning is abysmal

He has too many tools and track record of success to give up on.  He has a great swing, and should be able to hit. The flaw is his approach. In one of his first interviews he mentioned that you have to try and hit everything out in front of the plate. That explains a lot. I didn't follow him in college. The raw numbers were there. But ai have to believe with that approach, his abilities allowed him to have success at the lower level and cover up the flaw. He clearly tries to pull everything, and he consistently hits to the left side even on pitches that are on outside part kf the plate. That's a prescription for rolling over into double plays as well as a lot of the other failure we have seen from him..I can't believe they are really happy with his approach. I fear it is too late to make a correction.  It shouldn't be. He had to have been instructed on this previously throughout his life. But he won't survive if he can't make some adjustments. That is what the minors are for. He could be a great player.

No analytics would tell them to do what they are doing. Case in point, putting Krook in one day to close a game and then DFA him two days later. No data analytics would tell a major league team to even hire Krook much less pitch him in a save situation against the Yankees. Also don't know what they look at to pull PH Charparro for Garcia.
