If this is how Butera is going to make decisions, strictly by analytics, he’s not going to work out. He’s mismanaged pinch hitters and what little bit we have of a bullpen. I get he’s young and he’s learning or whatever but this team was firmly in the playoff chase and his decision making has hurt our chances badly.

It's one thing to say Toboni left Butera a crap bullpen, but it's another to go down with your best relievers only going 1 batter when you had a 1 run lead in the 8th and 9th.

He’s absolutely been dealt a crappy hand with this bullpen. Like outrageously crappy. However, his decision making is compounding the issue. The Krook decision is just unbelievable. I couldn’t even believe he was warming up for the save. It’s a fireable offense. One of the most inevitable outcomes I’ve ever seen. It was essentially forfeiting.

I really don't understand Butera's reliance on analytics when it comes to bullpen management. The bullpen is generational ass, nothing matters. It can't be quantified. Just go with whoever is freaking up the least at the moment.

Butera isn't making the decision. The analytics people are. This is how TB runs their organization. This is why Cash pulled Snell in Game 6. The manager is simply a conduit for the analytics decisions.

Yeah, Krook and Lawrence are garbage in a BP full of garbage. They are the guys you pitch in mop up situations. It made no sense. I want people to use analytics to help.make decisions. But in no world should analytics say to put Krook or Lawrence in during that situation. This looked more like some organizational thing where they want to consistently trot out guys from dumpster diving as part of some experiment. It's malpractice.
