Keller does a pretty good job at suppressing homers (0.86 HR/9, 9 HR/FB%) for a low K (18.2 K%), low GB (39.7 GB%) pitcher.

Even with a better K% and GB% (24.5%, 44%) and a lower BB rate (6.3% vs 8.2%), Griffin's FIP gets hit because gives up more homers on his flies (1.46 HR/9, 16.3 HR/FB%).

Pirates have scored the 3rd most runs in MLB, 18 behind the Nats. Pirates have run  a much better BABIP (.320 vs .289).

Mead sitting vs the righty, as is Young. Tena DH'ng, Vivas at 3rd, Crews in CF. Nats face 3 rigthies this series, so you can expect Mead and Young to get some starts at some point.

Lile chips in with a dinger. Would be good to get him going.

that Reynolds shot had to be over 381 feet to center. IT was deeper than Lile's, which was 417.

Balls really fly in DC's hot, humid air.  No elevation boost but all the other key elements.

Why in the world do you pull Griffin that early?

INNING                                                  PIT   WSH
1st   García Jr. homered to right (395 feet).   0   1
2nd   Lile homered to center (417 feet).   0   2
3rd   Reynolds homered to center (426 feet).   1   2
3rd   Tena homered to center (434 feet), Wood scored.   1   4
3rd   Lile doubled to right, Abrams scored.   1   5

Pittsburgh Pirates        1
Washington Nationals 5

Heat index of 107 might have something to do with it

He looked a little droopy. No swing and miss. I'm concerned about starting a 6 game stretch by going to the bullpen after 5, but Griffin may have been due for a short start after all those 100+ pitch outings
