George I think was to balance the salaries. He’ll contribute some, but the picks are the point and I don't think much of the picks.
The celts handled last season as badly as possible. First they try to tank, then Brown leads them to the two seed. Down the stretch all the talk is about Tatum’s recovery and they immediately hand him the keys in the playoffs. After that, Brown was right to want out.

Not sure how much he wanted out as they thought he needed to be moved, first for Giannis then for anything.  The trade Brown stuff has been a feature of Celtics's offseason and deadline rumors for about 7 years. This year, the Giannis stuff finally made him indifferent about being dealt.

I mean they won a title with Tatum and brown so not sure why they don’t want to try again. Seems a great move for the Sixers. You’re stuck with Embiid but have two good young guards. So when Embiid is not playing this gives you another scoring option. And I believe he’s decent at defense also?? George is pretty much cooked but yes that’s a salary match.

Oh, it's  a nice trade for the 76ers. So nice it kind of confirms that Stevens doesn't think the Celtics match up well enough inside for them to approach title status. Brown I think has been on the all defense teams. You keep Embiid on the floor in the playoffs with Brown, Maxey, and Edgecombes and that's a very good squad. I also think he plays hard to the extent that there was ever any dogging it element to the 76ers.

For the Celts, more or less this looks like a run-back of the 2025-26 regular season, with JT instead of JB. If George has anything left, he'a a good rotation piece but not even really the #2 guy to JT.

There  was talk in Boston about trying to deal Derrick White for Rudy Goebert when the Giannis deal fell through. I would have loved to have seen JT and JB  play with a real inside presence like Goebert.

For Boston, it’s Stevens setting himself up to be fired. The odds are none of those picks will be remotely as good as Brown and George is done. If they take a step back, I doubt Boston fans will be very understanding especially if Brown thrives with the sixers

Shaughnessy is blasting it as one  of the worst trades in Boston history (Celtics or otherwise). "40 cents on the dollar." it is certainly immediately disruptive and doesn't help the Tatum teams without  further deals. I suspect the Cetls will end up dealing the picks.  The 2028 1st round pick is protected and the 2031 pick is beyond the tatum at the top timeline.

Stevens has built up a lot of slack in Boston so I don't think his time in the job will depend on near-term results. One explanation was the team was not going to offer him a 2 year extension at $70 million and that the dreaded analytics don't rate him as high as his traditional points scored, rebounds, and assists suggest. Inefficient in ringing up those stats and doesn't playmake for others. The price gotten back was probably the best offer around the league in light of skepticism discussed in some articles like https://sports.yahoo.com/nba/article/did-the-celtics-give-away-jaylen-brown-why-analytics-dont-see-phillys-new-star-as-elite-of-elite-004011270.html?guccounter=1

The split in Boston is between the "in Stevens we trust" group and probably the larger "WTF? JB is a rafter number legend" group.

Stevens likely plans on using the picks in future deals.

If George plays 40 games and Brown repeats last year, any built up trust is gone. I don’t think either is out of the realm of possibility

No risk in having to resign PG, huge risk you gave to extend JB. Basically a future salary dump
