With Young hurt, Tena DHs and Crews plays  CF. Millas catches vs the RHP.

Martinez has pitched a big number of good innings, piling up 1.8  fWAR. Relies on contact rather than Ks. Limits BB and HRs.

Alvarez has  also been effective, maybe more effective with an opener or otherwise in relief. He's gone 4 - 4.2 innings in his 3 June appearances as a starter, with 2 good starts surrounding a less effective start where he piled up  5 of his 12 walks this season. Otherwise, he's had a very good K/BB ratio (24.1 IP, 7 BB, 27 K).

Enough with Tena
he's only playing because Young is hurt. It's him or Vivas, or Chappy vs a RHP.

You can make the case for Abi Ortiz if you are just looking for a DH.

I thought that might have been a strike. I  love  the Rays blowing a challenge on the 1st batter.

Wood just missed going out to CF. Still, a lead

Crews has crushed at least 1 ball over 104 in 9 of the last 18 games in June. his EV on contact has averaged 90+ MPH.

Would be huge if Crews keeps hitting.  Should have scored more that inning

the lack of Nats big innings in this series is a change from the past few opponents.

68 pitches through 4 for Alvarez.

I'm thinking 5 more batters through Aranda, 6 if no  one is on.

Alvarez should be a set up man for a legit closer. No more than 2 innings. I don’t know what to do with Lord. He is too valuable in the long role he is in currently.

Leave Lord alone. I agree, he's too valuable as a multi-inning guy when you need a bridge.

I think Alvarez goes to the bullpen when Irvin comes back, but for now, he's a good option starting or maybe paired with an opener if the top of the lineup is righty-heavy and the bottom has lefties.

Alvarez is better than every starter we have.   A rea
strikeout pitcher.

I’m in the first row in left center. Right near where the Crews missile went. I thought for sure the Wood ball was a HR.  Some bad luck going into that nook.  If you see someone with a Deutchland jersey and a Nats hat that’s me

Alvarez is a good long-reliever, a left-handed Brad Lord. As JCA says, maybe "paired with an opener".

Escape there. the 2 out BB kept the inning going and cost Varland maybe a second inning.

That was some bad baserunning by Diaz.  He’s slow but he slowed down between second and third and was looking at the ball.  Rather than running hard and picking up his coach.
