Marc Spears reports that Trae Young will out of his $49 million player option for 2027, but that the Wizards are still the favorite to sign him.

This is where Ted and Tommy Shepard would do something really stupid. Hopefully they’ve learned after having Gill, then a broken Wall, and then Beal all on the worst contracts in the league at the time

The article I read claimed there were several teams interested in giving him a max contract. After what happened with Atlanta after he left that’s just smoke from his camp. A cheaper shorter deal would be fine. If it doesn’t work out you just flip him for another expiring contract and a couple bags of chips.

Now that teams are learning the CBA, I doubt a player like Trey has much value. The second apron is so crippling that teams won’t risk it unless they really have to and a ball dominant guard who can’t defend on the downside of his career isn’t worth paying.

i heard yesterday the Wizards were likely to sign Young to a 3 year deal. I think they are still in on AJ but there have been reports saying that the Jazz (at #2) love Peterson, so it's possible the Wiz are trying to bait Utah into trading up to get him.

Vintage Ted is back. No reason to trust this team anymore. Atlanta gave him away for nothing because no one wanted him and then we turn around and bid against ourselves to give him a massive contract

JP Finlay says that the market has shifted due to the anti-tanking rules and more teams are looking to spend. The Wiz got Trae for around $70 million under max-deal. I just don't have a lot of faith in him returning to the Young of a few years ago.

that shows a lot of knowledge of the game's history to come up with that game comparison. I think AJ grew up in Brockton, MA, so the Bias thing up there is known as a what might have been in stories about the Celts of '86 and after.
