Isn’t Griffin going to need a break or some reduced workload. We don’t know if Irvin and Williams can pitch yet.
*shrugs* We can go to a 6 man rotation in September. But, honestly, if he hasn't signed an extension, we gotta use him up.

Also Mikolas and Littel suck.  Let one of them move to the pen. Or just DFA Mikolas
Maybe one of them if we get Early back at the end of August. But we really don't have better options unless the coaching staff sees the improvement from Alvarez that they want to see.

Pretty much this.
Just the vibes brother lol
Vibes don't win you games. Need performance. I'm down for Scherzer coming and being a setup guy, but he has to want to do that AND has to be productive.

I assumed he would slide into the bullpen or do well as the opener they seem to love to use.

Can he perform?

Also, do we need a right handed opener? Alvarez got sent down and is likely a bullpen arm when he comes back. I don't see them using one for Early.

He did against us. I mean, who else are we going to get for next to nothing? Could probably get him for cash considerations at this point.

This team needs more than "C grade" relievers. We need back of the bullpen guys. We can cover the C levels with what we have. To be honest, Beeter and Ribalta should be our C level guys. Or at least the lower level B level guys.

But we need at least one guy that strikes out more than a batter an inning and have the stuff to close big games. Guys like Luke Weaver and Jeff Hoffman.
NO! Ribalta is the founder of the Circle of Trust and one of only 2 members, along with Yean. We need to acquire a couple more relievers for the Circle.

Seriously, Ribalta looks a guy you can go  to in jams. I'm not sure you want him to close, tbh, because I think often late jams with leads are higher leverage. 9th inning is a different kind of pressure. Beeter is OK with that, but I'd like an upgrade.  Beeter can also be a fireman. He is not bad with guys on when he comes in, so him and Ribalta are a nice pair in that they can give each other off days. Get Yates.

I didn't say anything about moving Ribalta out of the pen. But Ribalta and Beeter are better as middle relief. Ribalta seems more lucky than anything else.

Sure, I would like an A reliever to close, and the rest B-grade. I'm talking about getting to the playoffs here, saying that Toboni should never have expected a bullpen like this to survive a regular season. A C-reliever should handle a single inning most of the time. That would maybe cut in half the number of times the Nats have a lead in the 7th and then lose.

Offseason, the Nats need to get a good closer.

Hard to believe that the Nats traded Kyle Finnegan for Josh Randall, who has failed Wilminton and Harrisburg, and for RJ Sales, who barely got started before going out with injury. Finnegan would be fine as an 8th inning guy, and he's making a whopping $9.5 million a year.

(Ferrer for Ford? Maybe a catcher is more valuable long-term than a relief pitcher. We will see)

You trade him, that's the season. Early isn't here until the end of August.

It's his turn Thursday, but Irvin would be on 6 days. Currently no pitcher listed, with Griffin listed for Friday. Maybe it's just giving Griffin an extra day.

You can’t evaluate trades that quickly.  Need to wait like three years.

If they blow this season with this offensive because of the bullpen, I’m judging now

Well
Sure but you will be wrong.  The team is not a real contender.

We should trade Griffin, Garcia, and Young. I’m pretty down to trade Abrams too

Abrams would have to be for a package headlined by Hancock, Sloan or Anderson, plus 2-3 more top hundred or borderline guys and some wildcards or a arias, eyanson, Gonzales, type deal

I remember the glorious ZDK packages. Why not add Wood, who has several years of control and, therefore, a very high return. How many minor leaguers could that return?

Frustrating series. Almost won Monday of Garcia’s shot was a foot to the right. Could have potentially won today if not for young missing the catch.  This will be a huge weekend.

The headline in that package is Anderson.  Hancock is a 4/5 away from Seattle.

Also, if youre trading Garcia and Abrams, may as well trade Cavalli too

Let's go big. Detmers and Silseth.
Silseth (and Logan O'Hoppe) to the Rangers for Angel Arrenado. Not even in the Rangers top 30. There's really no excuse for not beating this deal.

Crazy he went for so cheap. Makes me wonder what a combo of Yates, Bachman, and Natera Jr would cost.

Playoff baseball was nice. There is no reason to believe that Lerner Jr will ever spend enough to contend, so I’ll take a wildcard round

Playoff baseball sucked until 2019.  Do you think the couple Marlins fans remember they made the wild card in 2023.  Or even more to the point Royals made the playoffs in 2024 and are now 46-63.  I'm ok with getting some pitching as long as they don't trade top prospects.
Really liked the Mead trade.

Agreed. Simply getting to a WC round is not worth pursuing.
