Nationals All-Stars (2026)
« on: June 15, 2026, 09:59:54 am »
My guesses:

Starters: Wood

Reserves: Abrams, Ruiz

I'd imagine De La Cruz beats out Abrams in the vote.

It sure would be nice to see Ruiz in an All Star uniform.

Will he be back from the IL?

report over the weekend was that he was 90% healed and they were going to decide on next steps, sounded like he'd be ready for a rehab assignment soon.

First round of voting is out, and it has some surprises:
Abrams is in 1st place among shortstops.
Wood is in 7th among OF'rs, behind Pages, Acuna Jr., Marsh, Harris II, Teoscar Hernandez, and Jordan Walker (but ahead of Carroll and Soto)
Ruiz doesn't crack the catching top-10
No other Nats in the top 10 of their respective positions

Dodgers and Braves are dominating voting

how many OFs get voted on? Just 3?

I mean it doesn’t matter. He’s not going to get elected in and will be selected as a backup based on his great season so far.  Same for CJ.

I think he means how many get voted directly into the team. Which is 3. This is just to advance to the second round. They’ve made it way more complicated than it needs to be.

Phase 1 voting is done. Abrams still leads Betts. Wood misses the cut.

nats.talk notes they've hung a James Wood all-star banner in Philly as they set up for the game.

Griffin snubbed again as Braxton Ashcraft, Jesús Luzardo and Riley O’Brien are named to replace Jacob Misiorowski, Max Meyer and Paul Skenes

Ashcraft has been better than Skenes and on the same team. Easy decision.

The guy who really got snubbed was Zack Wheeler.  He’s scheduled to start Sunday so ineligible.  He said he told them he could pitch an again but it didn’t matter.

Of course Luzardo missed out last year and now included.

Eventually they make it up to guys.

Both Griffin and Luzardo had good cases so this does feel more like a lifetime achievement award than a reward for a nice surprise.

Oddly, they have the same number of  innings this year. Depending on the flavor of WAR you like, RA/9 based bWAR or FIP based fWAR, they each come out on top by a decent margin.

Riley O'Brien is a reliever getting rewarded for saves. I don't like replacing a starter with a reliever but the reliever is likely to be more useful in an inning stint.

I have a feeling Griffin still is on the short list if another guy is out.

top RBI guy at the game, batting in his usual spot in  the lineup.
