I wonder why the score bug says "down to 10 players" instead of "down to 10 men." In the Women’s World Cup the graphic says "down to 10 women."

Argentina looks pathetic. No shots on goal, as best I can tell. No corners. Very little possession. Few drives downfield. Just hacking and arm-tackling.

In another 4 years, we’ll pretend to care about soccer again. Sucks for NFL players watching soccer on grass knowing the owners will immediately rip it out and replace it with AstroTurf

i went to a game that year (Argentina vs Portugal IIRC). Had no idea what was happening as I had never watched soccer at that point, but it was a blast.

I was there! A hot day game IIRC. Beer was a lot cheaper than when the Nats arrived 9 years later.

Women's World Cup in Brazil next summer will get a fair amount of attention, and certainly the time difference will be far less of a problem than it was in 2023 when Australia and New Zealand hosted.

1996, wasn't USA-Portugal at RFK? I think that's the game I went to. Keller was the goal keeper, iirc

Wikipedia says you are correct, part of the Atlanta Olympics. I probably would have gone to that except I was working in Raleigh that summer.

I remember going to a USA–Ireland game at RFK in 1992. That was the first time I had been to a soccer game at RFK since probably 1980 or whichever year it was when Cruyff played for the Diplomats.
