Argentina defeat Austria 2 - 0. Both goals from Messi (who else?) who takes the record for most goals scored at World Cups. His current total is 18, but with Argentina progressing to the last 32, he'll no doubt add to his tally.

I stopped at a bar in MidTown at about the 66th minute. Austria had almost no chance to score, but it was 1-0 until near the end. Not impressed by Argentina. No sign of Christian Romero, Argentina's CB who plays for Spurs. Turns out he was lifted because of injury. Austria's CB Kevin Danso seemed to be on the spot whenever Argentina threatened.

However, I finally saw some World Cup travelling fans. Some Norway fans about 50th Street, One was obnoxious, an American who was offended that I was wearing a Nats hat and said that my team was The Nationals. He insisted that I should be "supporting" the US, rather than watching baseball. He finally shut up when iy became clear that I had followed soccer for a lot longer than he had. The others were pretty nice, especially when I mentioned Haaland...

People don't like Lalas but it's all theatre. He and Zlatan are great together. It's like the NBA pre game show with Shaq and Chuck and Kenny. I mean the USA doesn't have a talent like these guys so who do the euros want on our show? All euros I guess. Let them go back to whining about the hydration breaks

You would think everyone would be happy there after the Knicks won. I wore my Nats hat to the Yankees game there and had no issues. One guy was saying something about it but really didn't hear what he said. He had a Villanova hat and was pointing to it.

Argentina didn't look great last tourney either. But they have Messi who is really enjoying himself now that he has already won. And a strong defense and Goalie. They haven't given up a goal yet and probably won't in the first round.

He's awful. I've pretty much switched over to Espanol on Peacock unless it's late and Chicharito is on FOX instead of El Choad.

New Yorkers are delighted that the Knicks won. The World Cup? Hard to spot anyone who cares a lot. I was in a bar with some people in red Norway shirts. They turnwed out to be baseball fans from Cleveland with tickets to the Norway game. Talked about the revival of the New Nats, James Wood, 6-foot 7 ballplayers like Wood, Aaron Judge, and Frank Howard.

Some bars are advertising WC games to be shown, but not all bars.

The Inglarerra vs Ghana game? England is fielding a PL all-star team. On Ghana, I recognize Antoine Semenyo, a great sriker, and nobody else. No surprise that England has had more than 88% of possesion.
